Its all a brain-game!
I quit around couple of months back and no way am gonna touch a cig again!...
Brain game??? a little under 12 hours and I can't BREATHE...... and I don't know if its the patch, or if its because of the not having a cigarette... over 25 years I have been smoking, since i was just about 15 years old... Or so... Out here in the country, you smoked, or chewed tobacco, and worked, noone would blink an eye... My dad even bought it for me... Hell he didnt quit smoking until he was 10 yrs older than I am now... And ever since then, I have heard from my mom, you havent quit smoking yet, you havent quit smoking yet, etc... But this damn COUGH... UGH
Just remember dude,
once you quit, don't go anywhere near a cigarette. I quit 2 and a half years ago and thought I was fine. Then one day I got drunk and decided to take one just for old times sake. Stoopid. Now I'm hooked again. Jeez that sucks...
You know what they say - once a smoker always a smoker.
So best of luck and hope you'll succeed and leave that sh*t for good!
That's impossible.... Everyone I know (except Amanda) smokes, or chews tobacco... LOL... I know it will be a while before I can be around people smoking, but in my apt, no one will be smoking for a while..
My opposite opinion: If you can quit surrounded by cigars, you'll resist better to not start smoking when everyone around you lights a cigar. Thus you'll have better chances to made it.
The cigar part around here, lol are filled with green, lol. But yeah, right now, I want to beat someone for a cigarette... Eventually, I will challenge myself with that.. July 30th, I will be around all smokers, another party with some old friends down at the river, so we will see how that works out...
Goodluck bro. I am offiically 9 days cold turkey. Doesn't sound like a lot to non-smokers, but smokers can appreciate it.
I want you as a sponsor... LOL....
I say forget the patch and tough it out. Any crutch you use is a thread that links you to your addiction.
I'm 18 weeks and 3 days as of today, and I smoked 2 packs a day for 17 years prior to that. So the good news is it can be done. The bad news is it never gets any easier despite what the feel-goods tell you. You'll never be a non-smoker, the best we can do is ex-smoker.
Crutch...I will eventually be using them, so I will start now, LOL... And I buy the fact that it won't get easier. But I will have the hen (Amanda) hovering around watching me... But i am using the patch for now, if I dont like the patch anymore, I will just go cold turkey...
A friendly who.is would show this is registered where & to whom.
I wonder....
Yeah, I hate people posting just a link to a site that may or may not be worth it... Useful articles, yes, I appreciate, like from Autumn, but not links to just a website.
Ain't that the truth! Once you're hooked you will always be hooked. I don't smoke but I dip tobacco. And talk about addicting! I wish you the best in your journey to quitting.
I would love to quit dipping but just haven't been able to find that willpower yet.
Willpower, or people nagging at you (Amanda), is necessary... Doesn't mean I like it, but also my insurance company "sponsors" a set up just like AA, its kinda funny. I have a sponsor for quitting cigs.... In Seattle Wa.. LOL... She sounds cute, I haven't met an ugly Bree...
I tried to stop smoking with Chantix, and got sick as a damn dog. Seems 1 in 3500 people are allergic to it, and I'm one of them. Ended up having to go back to the doctor to get straightened out.
I told the doctor, I'd rather smoke than be that sick again.
I'm ready to try quitting again. The wife quit by using the patches, hasn't had a cigarette in over 10 years.
Might have to try that.
Good luck, Dizz. I'll be starting my turn in a week. Already set the date. (July 4th, my "Independence from Cigarettes" day.
I told the program, fuck chantix... I was not going to do that... Plus I dont know about adding pills to the ones I am already taking.... Could be bad..
I believe in you diz!!! You can do it!!!
Thanks! I am going to try..
C'mon Dizz... Way to go!
Screw smokin'
Screw you.... LOL JK, but I'm irritated because the patch feels like it is burning, and I can't stop coughing.
I never touch tobacco products. Nope. Just straight ol' green for me.
Im going to try and just do green, but slow down on that too, because I smoke cigs after it too....
Since nicotine itself is probably the least toxic thing of all the dangeours stuff in a mainstream cig, you can try those additive-free cigarettes that many brands are offering. They taste like crap and you won't get almost any satisfaction.
This is why patches are not working as predicted, the brain does not care much about the nicotine itself. And that's why the e-cigarette is not a panacea too. Smokers need the phenol, DDT, methanol, acetone...
Which is understandable, there are many junkies sniffing paint, thinner, nail polish remover... and methanol is tastier (as in smoother) than normal alcohol.
To test the theory, take a thinner sniff when you think you need a smoke, the feeling of satisfaction will be pretty close and the craving gone. That is not to say you should change the 'venue' lol.
Maybe that is why going cold turkey shows best results statistically. I mean it's really easy to get frustrated when you are craving and the patch doesn't seem to change that. And stress is a real quitting killer.
So accept that you will be giving up on a myriad of compunds, the remaining part is just putting up with the squirming and suffering leading to a better future health.
It is partly nicotine, but nicotine by itself is a poison also... And inhaling smoke doesn't help your lungs anyways (according to the ALL-KNOWING Amanda). Yeah, If I sound like a dick, its because I am... I just am pissed off... And hurt...
good luck dizz! the patches do work, what i found hard though is not smoking when i have a beer!
I quit alcohol (while i was doing other activities), Quit the other activities, but my smoking isn't tied to those, but I have had to quit before, and it didn't bother me before, but thats because noone was smoking around me and I couldn't get any either, but now that i can get some, and people around me smoking, its going to be a little harder....
Also, to the ones that told me to keep a journal, I dont write very well, horrible handwriting, so this will be my journal... LOL
