Well put your soda down and relax for 5 minutes, time to learn some noob basics 101.

What is a proxy?
A proxy is essentially a connection. You connect your account to your desired social platform through this connection.

In a simplistic illustration this is basically what you are doing:
IG account -----> Proxy ----->Instagram
However, what Instagram sees is this:
IG account -----> Instagram
(for the most part unless you are using very low quality proxies)

You are essentially not revealing your own home/VPS IP address through using a proxy. This is very important in terms of automation, especially when you want to scale. Instagram simply doesn’t like botting and will terminate accounts and connections associated with this so you always want to stay under the radar.

What kind of proxies are there?
Wow great question thank you for asking. To my knowledge there are 4 primary types of proxies used for instagram/social automation:

1. IPv6 Proxies - Used for data scraping and spamming primarily. I would highly recommend staying away from these if you are new to the game. Yes they are cheap but they are difficult to automate with if you don’t know what you are doing.
   
   
2. IPv4 Proxies - Used for spamming, page account growth and child account growth methods. Typical consistent action blocks, disabling of IPv4s happens randomly after every IG algorithm update, as Instagram will compile a list of blacklisted connections before updating and then shut them all down in one swift move.
   
   
3. Residential Proxies - Replicates a home computer connection. Instagram is wary of this as their users are primarily mobile. Instagram still bans these but it's hard to predict. I'd say for every 10 accounts on residential proxies, 1-2 will get disabled within a 12 month period if you are not careful. Action blocks are still common.
   
   
4. 4G/LTE Proxies - These replicate real cell phone connections. Instagram can't mass disable these proxies because it is a cellular connection which 98% of the user base utilizes. Therefore if you automate authentically, it is difficult for the algorithm to differentiate from a real-user. I have never had an account disabled on one of these connections due to smartly automating. Action blocks are rare, maybe once a week if I'm hyper-growing a page at 400-600 follows a day, which typically isn't for client purposes. Consumer available 4Gs or anything within the realm of "Best 4G proxy for Instagram 2019" are the only exception where you may run into issues, as they are typically blacklisted eventually.

If I were to recommend a proxy type to start with I would suggest a 4G proxy. Simply go to the marketplace and take some looks at the reviews and make a decision. Tons of great providers. You will have a lot more forgiveness with this type of proxy and will allow you to actually practice. They are more expensive but if you are interested in anything client related these are a must in my opinion.

Hahahaha no sorry. Trust me you ask this to anyone who’s found a great provider they keep that a secret so it doesn’t get saturated.

Fortunately for you there are a ton of new and old providers popping up everyday on the BHW marketplace so you just have to do some tests and your own due diligence. Another suggestion is just simply googling 4G proxy (or whatever type you want) on google and going waaaay deep into the pages and choosing from there, those will be a lot less saturated than the top results, which usually equals safer.

That’s it for this thread, just a little crash course or refresher for those of you who are new to the IG game. Questions about proxies seem to be a common theme on BHW lately.

Best tips for you are to keep reading, reading, reading then testing, testing testing. You will get the hang of it soon but just like anything else it takes effort and patience
