[Quick Case Study] - Ranking Web 2.0 Sites using GSA and 301 Shorteners in 2017

Now the page has around 500 links from 500 different domains and the rank has increased slightly. Data from ahrefs.

In google USA it is on #20 now ... and it was on #22-25 at the start, but on few other version of google the rank it has improved for a bit more. For some it is on #15, for some #18 so there is something like improvement of 5 positions.

It shows that shorteners do work, you get a bit of link juice if you use them, but they likely do not work as good as they used to be. I guess it is good to include them in your link building strategy, there will be no harm and hopefully some gain.

Still there are a lot things to explore, maybe direct commen blast on shorteners will work even better but this was a safer route.

that is nice. Maybe few blog posts or guest posts can push it from here but i guess you want to see the magic of only url shortners? Maybe build more of them.
 
Maybe more, but it seems that they shave the link juice quite a bit. To find out how much, I would have to do the same link campaign directly to the site and see how much would rank increase.

Anyways if the shorteners do "wash" links and make the cleaner, then it doesn't matter that much if they lower the link juice.

I am ranking now on #15 .. when the case study started it was ranked at #22.

So the 301 shorteners do work, maybe even better than I said in previous post. I guess they would work even better if I used more 301 sites in the first place.

So for the other sites I create will definitelly use shorteners additional way to build links ... and will power web 2.0 sites with this scheme, as well as profiles and other types of links I create.

It is very important to check which T1 GSA links are indexed after some time, and the build more T2 links just to them and not to all T1 links. So you do not waste link juice on dead/ non indexed T1 links.

which 301s do you use ?
 
Good luck, this would work but it will take a while for results hoping your links stick too and get indexed.
 
Excellent case study. I found similar results in the past, and when merged with spammy pbn posts it worked even better.
What I found really helpful though was to create tiers of 301s, and then point the GSA links at the second tier of 301s. Depending on the toughness of the kw, I'll do a minimum of 40 301s in tier 1, all the way up to 200. When doing it, there are 10 301s in tier 2, so potentially there can be up to 2,000 tier 2 links.

did you consider pointing different domains at both:
- tier 2 of shorteners
-tier 1 of shorteners
- webs (tier 0)

soo this way we do NOT have only shorteners as backlinks, theres link diversify + the links pointing to our tiers are different on each tier

Yes I've done that method. I'll mix in PBNs and also some blog comments (they're not that effective now for ranking) in order to make it diverse.
Sometimes I'll even make other web 2.0s and point them to the tiers.

Awesome. Do you have any list of good T1 shorteners? I did just 4 just for the testing, but now I cpild use more.

Google looks at them as authority backlinks, so they should be diverse, but I still wouldn't use the ones from low DA domains as they wouln't filter the links juice as well as high DA - tinyurl for example.

I think it is could be even benefitial to create multiple shorteners from the same domain pointing to domain.com, domain.com/?s=id1,domain.com/?s=id2 and so on ... so you get multiple links you can work with.

Did you do something like - Public PBN (some of the sellers from here) => High DA shorteners => Money site.

Does this looks somewhat safe. This is my next step :)

Reading through all this, I have a very amateur question:

When you guys talk about indexing your links, do you mean just getting the page the link is on re-indexed to reflect the backlink and thus, pass link juice? Or is there a whole different process of indexing specifically for links?
 
Indexing the page link is on. It is all the same ... because bots follow links on indexed pages.
