In SEO Specialist interview if the interviewer ask you to quickly audit a homepage of a website in 40 to 60 second what audit steps would you take?

I’d quickly check the title tag, the meta description, H1 , content relevance, page speed, mobile friendliness, indexability, internal linking, and the core conversion parts (CTA and trust signs) . Then I’d figure out the most critical SEO and UX obstacles that might weigh on rankings and conversions, a bit more directly.

First check the site indexing manually with site:sitename then go to the Ahrefs tool, check the domain overview, organic keywords, and backlinks profile. After that, check the site speed with PageSpeed Insights.

Within this short time you can able to check these factors to understand overall performance of the site

In a quick audit I'd check the title tag and H1 confirm the page clearly matches search intent look at internal linking and page speed and make sure there are no obvious issues with content quality or user experience Those basics can reveal a lot in under a minute.

I’d keep it very structured and hit the highest-impact signals first.

First I check indexability (robots.txt, noindex tags, canonical). Then I quickly scan title tag, H1, and whether the page matches search intent.

After that I look at technical basics like mobile responsiveness, page speed/Core Web Vitals, and obvious UX issues. Finally I glance at internal linking + content depth to see if the page is actually supporting a topic properly.

In 40-60 seconds? Paste the HTML into AI. And I'm not even joking, SEO audit in 1 minute is not possible.

I would look at the title tag, H1, content relevance, internal links, and page speed first. In a 60 second audit, Im mainly looking for obvious red flags rather than trying to do a deep analysis.

60 second is enough to spot the biggest win title ,H1, content intent , internal link technical red flags and page speed,

1. I would perform a quick check of the indexing using "site:domain.com".

2. I would inspect the source code, primarily to verify if the title tag matches the h1 tag.

3. I would check responsiveness and load times on mobile devices.

4. I would use pagespeed to analyze the site thoroughly.

Assuming I have no backend access to the site, like Google Analytics or Google Search Console, I'd pull up Screaming Frog and do an initial site audit of their title tags and heading tags. Then, if you can, you can pull up the schema validator tool as well as Google Page Insights to test technical SEO

Bonus points if you already pay for a subscription on Ahrefs or SEMrush to use those as well
