Question regarding link building...

All very new to this, so I'll appreciate if you accept my initial ignorance.

I've read that Google may 'sandbox' your site if you are seem to build too many links initially.

How does it work if you don't sumbit your site to google, then build backlinks for 3/4/5 months, then submit the site to google with all the backlinks already in place? Therefore, you aren't actually growing at an overzealous rate.

My thoughts on this are that there must be millions of sites that haven't been submitted to Google initially, built up backlinks (perhaps even through legitimate means) and then been submitted.

You dont actually need to submit your site to Google. If you have built links for 2-3 months prior, when those links are indexed your website will be indexed by default. You submit your site to the search engines when you first build it to speed it up.

Dont worry about the sandbox. Just build links and ramp up considerably over time. Start slow and build up. Your site will dance all over the show, but settles as it matures.

If you start building backlinks to your website it will get indexed. No need for the submissions.

If you want to be indexed more quickly, use pinging. Search on the threads here for info on pinging and rss feeds in relation to indexing.
