Hello everyone,

Last week I was forced to clean my space from the storage room and found 20 years old cds and old hard drives that I've been hoarding since middle school.

Spent a week dumping them on NAS and right now I'm contemplating on how to share these files, they are a collection of movies, series, flac/cda music, really old games for pc, sega, snes, psp, ton of pdfs, and hilarious cds I used to buy from the local 'flea' market (attached example).

I feel like an online repo with good design and simple interface would do (no plans for ads or whatever, this website would be just to reminisce the past); so even though my question is how to share this, would you guys think its worth the time and effort as a hobby project to start.

You don't really need to worry about DMCA for old/obscure content. Probably the simplest way to do it is to get a domain, point it to a dynamic DNS service, set a static (local) IP on your PC, set up port forwarding on your router to that IP, and run a web server serving the files on your NAS. If your NAS has its own web interface, you can just set up port forwarding to that.

Another good idea is to seed the files over BitTorrent, so that they don't get lost if you shut down your server. You could also use them to get into a private tracker, which will keep them around for much longer. Lastly, consider donating copies to the Internet Archive.

@Azure Spark Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure about the dmca thing since most of these files are like 15-20 years old, if I remember correctly dmca drop after 70 years. About the NAS, unfortunately it won't do since its a simple 12tb wd home edition. People still use torrent? wow, I think archive is a good idea.

Thanks again man.

I think that you'll waste your time as no one will be interested to pay for this kind of files.

I was just about to type "no one brought up payment", but I noticed the thread was moved from lounge to making money.

Anyway, I have no interest in making money out of this, just sharing old stuff.
