[Question] Does Google detect translated content?

Does Google have any sort of security in place that would penalize me for translating content from a foreign language site and using it for my own site? Besides the fact that translated content is usually bad for UI, is there any way that this could hurt my site (assuming that no one translated and indexed the content before me)?

Don't do it with Google translate.

I did the same, and my site got flagged in about 30 minutes for spam. Had to delete all the articles and rebuild the site. Luckily, after 6 months or so, that exact same site ranked for some keywords with a few backlinks :D

For short: Google seems to know that the content is auto-translated, and they'll punish you.

Edit: If you manually translate the content then it's totally fine.

I believe it does. Why not go for quality handwritten content? It would defo worth your time and money.

I have never seen any evidence that it was a problem to post translated content (in 12 years of IM).
 
I wonder why someone would search for article in different language With "Google" and still use "Google" translate to translate your article to English, then post it on your site so you can index it on thesame "Google"

You might get away with it by spinning the article though
 
The only time I believed google when they said that manually translated articles were fine and the way to go.
 
i would suggest you to use deepl.com, i have not had any issues with them with no changes to the content, just translated. it does not have all languages though. but there are so many other translators you could use apart from google.
 
I'm not sure it does . But then again , why not mix it up a bit , or even write a few sections yourself ( if not the whole article ) in order to be on the safe side ?
 
The method I used.
I used my country translator, not Google translator.
And I refined the words a bit
There's no problem so far. The indexing is very good.
 
Works great, no worries.

You overrate Google's cleverness: some blackhaters publish unreadable (but unique in Google's eyes) content and they rank with thousands of keywords.

If your translated content is unique, it works fine!
