I'm thinking about opening a xenforo forum on a specific niche ( not bhw competitor :D ), have the traffic for it already.

My question is:

Using the user-generated content policy on the website upon registrar, is it safe to use a .com domain plus a normal hosting let's say a vultr vps for example?

Some user-generated content may be suited for dmca removal (as a forum users upload stuff but they are responsable for it through ToS upon registrar) as far as I know, the website must have a dmca request page for those matters. I know Reddit for example uses it and have no issues at all.

It's about the domain get seized or host puts the website down without any reason, it's not a issue for me because I can create a raid backup system with cloud upload, the thing is I just dont want to deal with it since it's all whitehat.

Looking to hear about your opinions.

Regards

Hey, that is nice
.com domain is fine. But can be said after hearing more details about hosting.
What details about hosting you think its important?

I could use njal.la domain and host but dont know about their host speed.

You can go with an offshore hosting & save yourself the hassle, My point is if peoples are getting away with extreme blackhat stuff running on offshore, then a UGC forum with DMCA would survive.

P.S : Don't use Njala :)

The thing is offshore server speeds, dont know if host w/ xenforo with enhanced speed will be enough for people to have a good user experience.

Do you have recomendations for any good offshore host with decent speed and ofc all the rest?

I'm using AlexHost, someone recommand it here and they are good so far, but I only use the basic package for a small project (10K UV / month), never tried their VPS or servers.

I believe there was a review thread for many offshore hosts here, but can't seem to find it through the search.

That's my concern. Any recommendations anyone?

Also worried about attacks like ddos, bruteforces etc

As long as your users don't post illegal shit and you have a DMCA removal request form. You should be fine. if you are going with Vultr, make sure their emails don't land in spam so you can quickly respond if they ask you to takedown something. They have had a history of deleting websites if the takedowns weren't done within their stipulated timeframes.

- Put your site behind a proper Layer 5 firewall or a cloud Ddos mitigation service. Cloudflare provides basic free protection.

- hardren your server. Don't have admin panels open on the internet, cover stuff with 2FA, use ssh-keys instead of password-auth, all that stuff.

Thanks for the tips, I'm not a IM guy still learning website stuff. Atm reading and testing all documentation and demos.

You know registrars and hostings put websites down because they shit their pants over a dmca request, even if the website is wh and I dont have the time or pacience to deal with that and have to explain myself to those retards in order to restore domain or host.

yeah but there are registrars that really don't care

Those are the recommendations I asked about, mentioned njal.la or flokinet or securednet etc

Need feedback from you guys.
i believe that dmca.com can help with these kinds of issues
i think they have a paid consultation and they can help you with your forum
