One of the techniques to improve the pagespeed of a website is to make your website AMP compatible.

Now, while I do know that improving the loading speed of a webpage can improve your rankings in SEO, do you guys think that making your website AMP compatible would improve it even more? If so, how much do you guys think it would actually affect SEO?

Mostly asking because I am trying to rank a website with some keywords and there is only one webpage from my competence aiming for those keywords that has his website AMP compatible and is reaching rank 1 in most of the keywords, and I was getting confused with thoughts like "is it really that much of a difference if I actually make my webpage AMP compatible?". What do you guys think about it?

Page speed is just one ranking factor, I don't think AMP is the only reason why he's ranking so high.

Amp is superfluous. You just need a good theme and optimize the core web vitals.

Your competitor may simply be better at keyword research, optimization, internal linking, backlinks, topical authority, and so on.

Google pulled out seo points for amp sites back in like 2021 (and that was mostly for news sites anyways).

Amp is great to vastly improve load times and useful when you have mostly static pages but it will also hurt your ad earnings quite a bit since amp pages don't show ads properly.
