**Quesion** on keyword research

Hello BlackHatters!

My name is Sid and I'm taking my first few steps in the world of IM with what seems to be barrage of never ending information. No worries though, I like research and learning so I'm not complaining, at least not yet.

I'm looking at amazon affiliate marketing as step 1, with a review type website, focused on gadgets and I had a couple of questions which google couldn't throw much light on. Hoping people here might be able to help. So here we go:

1. I'm from India and the website would target Indian consumers, say my keyword is "best mobile phones with 4GB ram in India" what happens right now when I search for this term on google, page 1 is dominated by website like wirecutter, techradar etc but all of them, have articles targeting the U.S market, giving the price in dollars and going to amazon.com instead of amazon.in. Is this a good or a bad thing? would google prefer my page as it would be from India when a Indian consumers searches for the keyword? or would I end up waging a doomed war with the mentioned tech giants?

2. Can anyone give me a little insight on the SMErush competition rating? the scale is 0-100, what sort of score should I be looking at, considering I'm new, inexperienced and maybe a tad stupid? Would 40 and below be a good scores? Also, I might not have a lot of funds to put into the website. I should be able to cover content myself, about 30000 words over a month or so but I would also be link building and working on SEO myself. To be honest I could drop a few bucks if I wanted to but then if I do that for my 1st website i would end up not knowing the inner workings of the big bad world of IM.

3. Would a total monthly search of 5000 be enough? I'm not looking at making big money right now but I would like to make some, there is only so far you can go without seeing any return, right? Say $200 a month? To be honest this is more an exercise to prove to myself that IM could be a real and not just a pipe dream.

Your post length may have restrained many experts from answering

1. Although I am not into affiliate marketing, IMO you can give it a try. To be true, Google gives priority to authority sites however by doing legit SEO you can build your website authority too. BTW you have to try first.
2. Also, if you have a low competition score than the keyword is easy to rank. For eg. a score of 30 would be tough than the score of 13.
3. A traffic of 5000 monthly in India would be scattered to 100-150 a day. For earnings, you need to keep the CTR in mind.

The thing is I am also not as expert as I started 5 months ago and had various questions in my mind. However, as the old saying goes you need to keep trying until you get through. Just monitor yourself at each level and be in touch with experts here and there.

Sharing knowledge is what I believe in.

Been sitting on a couple of KWs as I do not want to sink time and money without some clarity about question 1, any help would be greatly appreciated.
