With all the security and privacy suites FB has been dealing with, to see their platform being over taken by a bot program, did not make them happy, and with a presence like they have on the internet, WHO in their right mind would want to piss them off?

The problem was greed pure and simple. By trying to control his market with forced login to his server, facebook easily tracked him down. He should have made the software open source with more limited features and just charged people for customizations.

Then Facebook could not have touched him and he still would have made decent coin. You can't sue someone for building software, only for selling it. This is the wave of the future boys, open source will eventually replace ALL for profit software. It's only a matter of time.

I also agree with you when you say he could have covered his tracks in a much better way. As far as I can tell, he did nothing to cover his tracks. I would have to agree that greed, or better yet, trying to make a quick buck was his downfall.

As far as everything becoming open source, I disagree, however I do agree with you in the sense that more and more coders will be moving toward this platform.

The internet itself has been a great democratizer, and I've not only witnessed but played an active role in my own way in that process. All one has to do is look at what has happened in the music industry to see what is coming for all intellectual property forms. I'm not saying it will happen overnight, but I suspect within my lifetime it will become impossible to make a profit packaging a piece of software and selling it, at least as a long term release. Hackers, pirates, and open source developers will insure that. Everything is trending in that direction, it's just a question of time.

Is your bot limited to only one account? Seems like all you have to do is make it capable of using multiple accounts to easily exceed Facebook's "request" limitations. But if you can do that without using Captcha, such as using it as a mobile site somehow, you just might have a hot commodity there, at least for a little while, as long as you don't make the same mistakes as spud did.

Contrary to popular belief, FB mobile is not the way to get around captchas, and neither is PVAs.

They are very useful when it comes to creating fan pages. If you create a lot of fan pages, you want them to be created on a PVA. You also only want to create one fan page per PVA, just to be extra safe.
