Is it pretty good on mobile as well? I having a few tiny issues when I use mobile for my brixton theme. Is there a trial or free version to see if everything integrates fine? I was debating whether to switch from my current one or not for a while...

Yea, I had Newspaper for more than 3 years, love that theme. Mobile version fast and good looking too.
No free trial, but you can try nulled version from @Festinger Thread.

For blog, I surprisingly found free themes are the best, because u can finally find a beautiful one for yourself from the repository, no need clunky functions, just blog, blog, blog, blog, blog hell out of the blog.
And when u get some traffic, put some ads, move next.
