Porn is like a drug and fucks up your dopamine system in the brain. Prolonged and consistent exposure will make you depressed or numb, and in a way, less humane. But you won't notice it and you'll think everything is normal, but gradually, it re-wires your brain and you'll become a zombie, basically. Hell, who am I kidding, MOST people with access to the internet are like this.
Social media addiction works the same way. Internet addiction, video games, dare I say even a BHW addiction works the same way. It's all related and comes from your dopamine systems in the brain. A lot of people go on dopamine fasts (by avoiding music, social media, masturbation, porn, anything that releases dopamine within their control, etc) for 24 hours to renew their sense of self and productivity the next day.
Why do you think people are on their phones 24/7 instead of being present in the moment? What's the first thing you do when you wake up? Probably reach your phone, check social media and emails, right? How many times do you check your phone and reply to DM's when watching a movie?
We're basically an ADHD generation with a 24/7 dopamine addiction. Don't get me wrong, dopamine is good, but we've become hard-wired for instant gratification -- which is bad!
I'm no life guru, and I make these mistakes too, but I've taken steps to decrease my exposure to social media (turned off notifications, keep my phone away while working) and shit that won't get me any further in life such as porn. Sometimes when my willpower is at an all-time low (i.e., when hungover) I fall victim to it, but hey, baby steps...
