I'm pretty new to the crypto game although I understand most the of the basics. I'm going to wet my feet first by investing into the better coins, and then some top 20/30 coins.

I have a budget which I'm going to split into three pots, I'd like to end up looking at the newer coins but understand they come at a risk.

What I'd like to do is create some type of checklist to go through. Off the top of my head it would go like this:

1. Check coin owners backgrounds

2. Analysis on the coins social media / Telegram chats to pinpoint any fake bots being used to inflate the reputation

3. Find some big crypto Telegram groups and dig around inside them, see what's being said about the coin I find

If you have any other advice that will be greatfully appreciated.

Thanks

Avoid the telegram groups check. They are manipulated.

I remember joining a few and they were just full of memes and spam, I was hoping there would be some better groups. Besides Telegram what else would you suggest to check new coins

ehh, rather than checking for the absence of fake engagement, i would check for the presence of real engagement. It's crypto, every project does its best to get recognized. that includes bots and reputation inflation. i wouldn't put my chips on a project that cant even do that. instead of trying to discern which ones are artificially boosting their posts and stuff (every project with a budget and some ambition is doing it), find the ones that have real engagement and a real community beside it.

4. Read whitepapers.

This is the most foolproof way of distinguishing scams and rugpulls from good projects (most rugpulls are just copy paste whitepapers of other projects).

I can not stress this enough, whichever coin/project you like or support I highly recommend reading the whitepaper of the project even if you don't have tech background.

All you need to know are a few keywords that I am sure you're already familiar with if you're reading this.

Even if you don't understand the details it helps to just get an overview of the overall project.

The architecture, the team, the roadmap, utility, use cases, token distribution are all mentioned in the whitepaper.

Wow thanks a lot I didn't think of that!
