[PLEASE EXPLAIN] Private Email Server + VPS + Linux + SES + SMTP + IP

Hi there,

I recently decided to get into the mass email marketing game for the purpose of selling affiliate products and realized that I'm not well versed in the major email marketing concepts...I'm thinking of sending upwards of 10,000 (targeted, no spam traps) emails a day. Like email blasts with links.

Can someone PLEASE explain the general idea here? Like, I've read online but don't really understand how to get up and started :( From what I understand, using a car and physical mail analogy....

SMTP --> This is used o create the actual mail (Gmail, MailChimp)
SES --> Like the mailman truck (Amazon WS or Sendgrid)
VPS --> The engine of the truck (Multiple online..)
Linux --> The metal used to make the truck??
Dedicated IP --> The road the delivery truck takes

How do I set this up?! Can someone please break this down because the one is still a little ambiguous for my understanding.

You sound pretty confused.

You begin by taking SES out of the analogy. Amazon SES is a cloud based sending utlity. It gives you everything you want.

You're describing a stack - a set of technologies. This is the email stack.

SMTP is not used to create the email - it is just a mail transfer protocol. The mailbox (Inbox) is a different thing. VPS is just a server. If you're using SES - you don't need a VPS. Linux is just an operating system on your server. It could just as well be Windows (there are several Windows based mailing tools available). Again with SES you don't need a VPS. Same goes for a dedicated IP.

Sendy installs on your server (even a shared account) - connects to your SES to send out emails.
