Hi there. I am trying to choose a domain name and I am wondering, from a SEO pont of view, whether there is any drawback from selecting a .net or .biz domain. I see that .net and .biz is available for my keyword. Anybody know, or have these sites?

dot com best, then dot org, then net, then biz, then the rest, info worst of all...... dont know much about biz, those others definitely in front though seo wise, although it depends if you can get a strong name on a biz thats not available on one of the first ones, if its a keyword domain then would not use the biz, would use a com or org if it was me.

I would do anything to avoid a .biz. I can't remember ever seeing a .biz domain on the first page of G anywhere.

yeah .biz got raped by spammers and scammers when it came out. it's practically worthless for seo. I think google may hate it more than .info as well.

Well IMHO, .Net domains are one of the best after .com, I usually go for .net domains if .com is not available. . Then only .org. . And Honestly i don't have much idea with .biz but let me assure you google won't respect .info domains much. .

Thanks

I've got a few .info pages on page 1 with good keyword competition.

That's really good, But you must mention that you have worked a lot than usual to made it happen right??

Thanks

No. I joined a few link trading sites like linkmarket and automaticbacklinks

I have a real estate site listed about 7th place for a few specific US states, PR4 in just under a year.

I'm not an seo expert, and will never claim to be one, I've just found building links slowly and casually has been beneficial to me. Maybe I was just lucky with these sites.

Registered September 2009. A good tip I found works well with .info sites. go register it in the .info DIRECTORY! I get good backlinks from that.

Code:
http://www.info.info

It's a nice info to us, Thank you mate. I really appreciate your help. . Thanks :D

For rankings - .org, .com, .net, .info

For commercial intent (like you want to sell later on) - .com, .org, .net, .info

But at the end of the day you can rank pretty much anything if the onpage SEO is good and you throw enough backlinks at it. The above is true if all things are same.

I have a .name I have worked hard for very little reward. So I aren't a fan although I cybersquat a few good single worders. .info I find the same thing happens I work hard for very little reward. .com work best then .orgs and .nets tie for 2nd place.

My .name's and .info's are only 2 years old so maybe with a bit of age they will come good.

Wow this forum is awesome! thanks alot for the help guys, I think I am going with a .org name that is a variation of my keyword. The Google keyword tool says it gets about 1000 searches for an exact phrase. I am actually not looking to make money on the site, its just going to be an experiment to learn SEO. Just wondering, if I manage 1 or 2 spot, does this mean I will get 40% or so of that 1000 searches?
