Got version 5.5.11 and it keeps crashing. I keep sending in the crash reports (every time) and nothing seems to change. Plus if you start running a program and it get stuck in a loop you'll have to use the task manager to kill it, no matter how many times you click "stop" or "cancel".

Come on Seth, just get the product stable.

Looking forward to a respectful response.

A few hours from a post on here to an answer - better than what we get from the official support desk, the forums or the Skype group. And Jason, if this is Jason, do you actually work from Ubot or not - last we heard you had left the company and then all of a sudden you are back on the scene.

Although saying that, you and Seth used to share this account so it could be anyone.

We don't do support on the forum or in skype, but I will stick up for our support desk - they're very responsive. It can take some time to get to the bottom of the problem just because there is a protocol and specific questions we ask.

The reason I'm focused on this issue, fatboy, is that the latest iteration of UBot Studio is stable. We've been doing regular releases after a major stability upgrade (5.5) and are focused on solving any bugs we can narrow down. 5.5.12 is on its way out soon to fix a few bugs we've found. If lincolnave found a problem, I want to make sure we get it looked at.

This is your old pal Jason, fatboy. I was offered a great marketing job last year and took it, but returned to UBot Studio about two months ago, partly because I was really impressed with the future plans and the work Seth and the team had done while I was gone. There are some really great things happening at the company and the community of customers is great, so I'm glad to hop back on here and make sure everything's smooth for the folks here at BHW.

The current 5.5.11 is no where near stable - for each change to a define statement, you have to save, close down the bot and then reopen Ubot studio to make the changes stick. If you don't Ubot runs the code that has been changed even if its not there. This has been present since 5.5.11 hit the street and has been reported by many users and what do you see if you go to the bug tracker, its stuck at 'awaiting feedback' because Ubot are blaming the user code provided to replay the bug! Without a stable define command, the whole of the software is useless.

Here is a quote from someone hitting the exact same problem:

"Maybe Im the only person who cares as Im trying to get something sorted and have to use v5.5.10/11 (as that included a major fix for me) but having to save > new > load with every code edit I make when it takes 5 minutes every time means 30 seconds coding, 5 mins waiting, 30 seconds coding, 5 mins waiting etc etc. Its torture!"

If 5.5.11 is so stable, can you tell me why there are so many bugs in the bug tracker. I will give you that Seth actually did a good job when he pushed 5.5 out but every release since has gone back to the old Ubot traits. Balls to the current bugs, lets force another 'feature' in there that will introduce another 7 bugs. Don't worry about the bugs, look at the shiny new stuff.

The majority of people are now back to V4, the semi-decent version that is no longer supported. Ubot now doesn't support a version that sort of works whilst pushing out a bug riddled V5.

but returned to UBot Studio about two months ago, partly because I was really impressed with the future plans and the work Seth and the team had done while I was gone.

One decent version upgrade doesn't make good work and as for future plans, please tell me that getting the basic code stable is extremely high on that list above all the new bells and whistles that may be pushed out.

There are some really great things happening at the company and the community of customers is great, so I'm glad to hop back on here and make sure everything's smooth for the folks here at BHW.

How about making it smooth for all your current customers instead of trying to save face on a forum that is probably filled with future clients you and Seth are trying to convince to part with a fair wedge of cash before giving them a broken product?

fatboy,

Let's not go back and forth about business strategy when we can be fixing your issue. This particular bug you're describing - is it this one? If so, can you add to the tracker? Or PM me more info.

Thanks

Yes thats the one, the one thats marked as awaiting feedback even though it has a video of the problem and example code.
All Miriam seemed to do was change the title and try to discuss what was up even though Jane had put the code and a video demonstrating it.

That was a month ago - still no progress, its not even on the list to be sorted in 5.5.12 although I se ethere are fixes for the Python feature that was added and caused more bugs.

OK. We have a pretty clear process for solving bugs.

We asked for additional information in a very clear way:

"Hi Jane,

Let's distill the issue a bit. Your script has a lot happening that is not necessarily needed to reproduce what I think is the core of the issue.

1. Are you talking about Define commands? or regular UBot Studio commands?

2. Is the issue then occurring when you create a defined command?

3. Are you then having trouble running the defined command after it is created?

4. Are you also able to reproduce this issue in a new script and not an old script that relies on a custom built UI?"

I've responded to this bug asking for more information. When I create a defined command, and add new commands to it without saving, in 5.11, it works. I've posted that video in the tracker.

If this particular bug is causing problems for people, please follow the instructions and let us know how to reproduce it so we can get it resolved.

Thanks!

Jason

Define command is very good.
I like the logic within it.

Would work a whole lot better if it didn't run code that had been deleted or actually did run code that has been added to it. Big bug that quite a few people have and as usual support 'cannot replicate' the bug as they can't be assed to check out code that is longer than a couple of lines.

Due to that little show stopper most people now develop in the UNSUPPORTED v4 and only compile using V5 as that includes all files needed to run the bot instead of, like Ubot 4, downloading files from the Ubot servers which was a gamble incase the server was down again.

Current users are now between a rock and a hard place of an unsupported v4 and a broken v5..........but hey, we still get to pay our random monthly update fees.

We've asked anyone who's having this issue mentioned above to please add information to the tracker. So far, only 1 person has given any information on it (all are welcome to see this here: http://tracker.ubotstudio.com/issues/584).

We look forward to more information so we can better prioritize this issue for Jane and fatboy.

So you stopped users posting bugs in your own forum, so now its here in your sales thread very professional.
Now you are asking us to spam the bug tracker as one person reporting the issue will not get it fixed sound like a great idea (should I make a bot for it?)

Read your own forum many users are suffering from this bug, just the word bug has been replaced with the words issue/problem and so on, to stop the threads being deleted

Stop the we can't reproduce it as it's unprofessional and fools no one

Yes one more user had about enough, so your next update fees have been reallocated towards other software, as this has been an ongoing problem for years and Seth being in denial. Even when this gets fixed it will only be a short time to the next instance.

So I now take ubot for what it is a toy that when it works it's great, but don't keep it as your main software because it will kick you in the ass when you need it.

Yes, if more users ask for a solution to a bug they are experiencing it is more likely to get fixed. The correct place to post about bugs and how to reproduce is the tracker. It is the smartest way for us to manage and prioritize requests, suggestions, and bug reports. It is just as public as the forum, but easier to organize and designed for this purpose.

After two months of asking the 5 or so users who claimed this bug was a problem for help to reproduce it, in the tracker and via Skype, Dan finally gave a very clear explanation and I worked directly with him to reproduce it. It took about two hours of his time and we're glad he was able to assist. The issue was that to reproduce the bug, you cannot edit the define command itself, you must only edit the command inside the define. If you edit the define command directly, or switch to code view, the bug doesn't occur.

It is now on the roadmap to be fixed. Assisting us in reproducing an issue is a much more effective way of solving it than talking about it here.

We will continue building the best web automation software on the market, and hopefully in the future we can work together again!

After sticking with it for 5 years continually paying for each version upgrade and update fees
I can honestly say it seems ubot has hit an all-time low bug fixes take months before being addressed making the software more or less useless in that time frame. So how you can say this is the best web automation software on the market is beyond me. As 4 using ubot again I can really do without the self inflicted punishment

Had to comment on this point - people were willing to give you the bots they were working on when this bug was found and as usual, anything that we wanted to send in had to be cut down to ensure your support / dev didn't have to read through the code. We are not the coders behind Ubot, if we took out chunks of code how do we know we were not taking something that caused the bug to occur out?

Not sure if its laziness that you can't check the code or its down to the SINGLE developer not having enough time to try and fix the bugs whilst introducing features that in turn introduce another pot of bugs into the mix.

As I have said several times before leaving the Skype group before you and your trigger happy finger could boot me from it, get the base code sorted, bug free and stable and then introduce all the frills. That would be a major step in the right direction.

If you all tested the software before rolling it out to paying customers, you may catch the bugs before people have to wait months to years for a fix (Talking the popup problem that I have submitted to your tracker, was marked down to routine and still waiting, the browser resolution that you all said was awesomiums problem and I ended up paying TJ for a working plugin that did it, do I need to go on)

There are bugs in the tracker from early 2014 (the one from 2013 is site specific so will let you have that one) so quick bug fixes are not happening, they are nearly a year old and thats just bugs that got put into the tracker. Not sure what happened to all the bugs that were in the forum before you closed the bug forum down.

Anyway, will leave you with that one before you and Seth declare me a heretic out to trash your company yet again - I have explained I am not but your professionalism is questionable, your software is decidedly not fit for purpose (latest is bug riddled for anyone who wants to try and use the full power of the software and V4 is unsupported) and you will not give a damn again before more marketing spin is pushed out the door.

You nearly had me when Seth pushed out 5.5, that was a huge step in the right direction and look what happened, devs started wanting to work with Ubot again, but after that it nosedived. Lets see if the new single dev Adam can get your failing show back on the road.

For some reason i can't even register on the ubot studio forum, i also read there is a ubot studio resources page but it doesn't load is this a possible sign that the websites going to vanish? Also why is there no trial version or Download like it claims on the website? Because this app is expensive to some of us so it would be nice to be able to evaluate it for 30 days or something. ;)

Well anyway on to a few questions i have to current Ubot users/developers. :D

1) I am thinking about getting standard edition but pro edition says "Run unlimited browsers simultaneously with multithreading.". Does this mean that if i made 2 bots with standard i could only run one at a time? or does it mean that they would both still run together like multi threading however pro apps can run multiple tasks in one app?

2) Can you use PHP/javascript scripting with this to generate random names/values/data etc? or is it just a default visual scripting language?

3) Can you upgrade versions from standard to pro later on after buying? (I am poor)

4) If i saved up and paid $495 for pro, what types of things can this do to get me my money back? Do people buy bots here on the forums or would they expect them for free? Are you guys actually making money with this program or is it just good for boosting twitter followers etc.

No, you can run multiple bots at the same time, it's just that each bot would be limited to 1 thread.
2) Can you use PHP/javascript scripting with this to generate random names/values/data etc? or is it just a default visual scripting language?
UBot has a pretty cool "account data" option, it's very cool and works great. You can also code a custom plugin (with .NET) to do anything you want with it.
3) Can you upgrade versions from standard to pro later on after buying? (I am poor)
Yes you can do that any time you want.
4) If i saved up and paid $495 for pro, what types of things can this do to get me my money back? Do people buy bots here on the forums or would they expect them for free? Are you guys actually making money with this program or is it just good for boosting twitter followers etc.
You can sell your UBot made bots or you can freelance and code custom bots for other people. Or you can do other things. It's up to you.

Thanks for the reply/info.

1) Apparently the Developer version can Whitelabel Applications but does this mean theres some huge logo in the standard and pro versions? Because that might make selling bots quite hard to do then plus it looks un professional. I would expect everything to have been Whitelabel Applications in at least the pro version then developer to have way more extra simple features and the extra gui options etc.

2) When i purchase can i always use it from then on is it subscription based? I am assuming it's a one time purchase for unlimited use but will i receive new versions for free when they are released?

But anyway i am thinking about getting either the standard or pro version but they are quite high priced. This is why there really needs to be a trial version of all 3 versions to evaluate the options to make up my mind which to buy.

Thanks again.

Edit - By the way how do you post a link on this forum i have been here for a bit and made a few posts but it wont let me post links :(

1. I think in the standard / pro edition you will get a 'Powered by you and Ubot Studio' on the bot somewhere
2. Ah, thats the trap we all fell into. No, you will pay a large wedge of cash up front and will then have to pay for monthly updates as well to get the updates. These 'monthly update fees' can only be paid for in 6 or 12 month blocks.

To be perfectly honest until they pull their fingers out and get the base code stable I would save your money and learn native .net coding - I have the dev version and due to basic bugs like Ubot not handling popups properly I am currently dead in the water. The sites I had bots for I was using workarounds to not use popups (mainly old useragents). Since the sites now don't like old useragents I am stuffed until the bug (that has been knows for years and in the tracker for the last month) is actually sorted out.

However, I won't hold my breath on it, I don't look good as a smurf!

Wait you mean you can't just buy it and keep using it? Or do you mean only the updates have to be purchased? I assume i could just buy the current version and never have to pay again and could keep using that version forever, or does the whole program use expire if you dont keep giving them money?

You can buy it and use it, but if you don't stump up the 'update' fees you won't get any bug fixes (yes, you pay for bug fixes) or updates between versions.

If you don't mind working with a version that will probably be unsupported in 12 months or having updates then you still can.
