That person seemed to have had a panda issue and not a penguin as the timelines dont really jive... :-(

The service is not what causes a penguin flipper slap, its the owner of the sites that cause the issue by not having enough of a diverse link pattern

This service is perfect for penguin/panda or whatever fear factor Google wants to spring out of the zoo purely for the way we shake things up

I'd just like to say here that these updates have the motto to "cut the crap" from G.

How do they find "bad" sites? -
1. Bad / Too little content or User Experience (avg user leave the site in like 1-45 seconds, having 5 pages on the site)
2. Bad links ( no diversifcation on diff platform, anchor texts)

Now Link Diversity helps you diversify your backlink portfolio, thats all it does. If you site is hit coz of that, it will probably come out.
But BUYING TOO MANY LINKS WILL NOT COMPENSATE FOR Bad content or User Experience.
