My suggestion: for the adding of 100 automatic follows, you should have the option to add the 100 followers to every account without any work
 
Question: I have a legit twitter account that represents a new forum I'm launching and I want to add 100s of friends to it without losing the account.

I won't spam the followers and I just want to add people talking about a certain subject.

Can this still help me or is it really more for throw away / auto-generated accounts? Please explain in detail. I'm an old guy :)

Hmm I would like to try this but how does it drive traffic? After I add all my friends do I have to message them all? Can I do that through the program?

You can add your website url into your twitter account profile. Then once you add a friend, he may go to your profile and check out your website. If then are interested in you, they may become following back to you. Then once you post a message, all of your followers will receive your message.

The standard version only have adding friends and removing friends actions. If you want to send mass direct messages and post mass updates, you may need the Pro version. :)
