Lots of unique content on subpages that are deep-linked with proper anchor texts, lots of patience and persistence (even after the "fresh content" bonus wears off in the SERPs, and possibly a votive candle. Then another new site with the same Not much of a sales pitch, I know

Let me try again: Make a ton of subpages with decent content, keyworded urls, proper title texts and buy the golden plow and I can match the anchor texts with the urls and spread the juice all over your site.

Seriously that is good advice no matter what services you use on the forum, period.
