Penguin Friendly Backlinks?

From what I've read I don't believe the link type is a big deal, I think it's the linking style is what slapped people on the penguin update.

Great tips guys!

From what Ive read here and on other sites, this is what it takes to beat Penguin (when it comes to backlinking):

*Make sure the majority of your backlinks are do-follow, and some nofollow to keep it natural
*Use only PR 1 and up backlinks
*Use your main keyword 40% of the time and LSI or random keywords the other 60%
*Get contexual backlinks from sites related to your niche
*Use high quality links such as: Wiki, Web 2.0, Article Directories
*Do not use blog comments or forum links for your money site

How does that sound? :)

People want to go out and change their backlinking portfolio but I don't think that is necessary. Step up your game and your content like superlinks said. At least it is still too early to tell.

The best part is there are affordable "all-in-one" services also that provide fully diverse link portfolios. Well, affordable being a relative term. Diversity, and of course quality, are the main back link factors nowadays. You need high quality to keep your link velocity low and natural-looking, and diversity to again appear organic and leave no synthetic seo footprint. All of my sites are totally fine, and I will gladly share my source with anyone who asks; and no smoke and mirrors or affiliate bullshit. Just wanting to make sure everyone on blackhat can get the same high-quality, penguin-proof seo that I use for my clients, so we can all make money as a community while beating google.

I have a linking structure that's working great for me, I'm seeing steady movement in the serps. I was actually already doing this for one of my sites, and after seeing that site survive the panda and penguin, I polished it up a bit and continued experimenting with it on other keywords and its working great for me.

I used to be a big supporter of link diversity (people always telling me to get links from *everywhere*) but my new linking strategy has less than 5 "actual" links coming to my site each week (I have a steady stream of "filler" links though coming in every week to maintain link velocity) and the movement is pretty nice. I think it's also very safe too, I'm sick and tired of getting so many links, ranking, and then having an update wipe it all away. Especially annoying when its a white hat authority style site.

The gist of it is I use web 2.0 backlinks (I used web 2.0 for all my sites, but this particular site survived where the others fell and I realized I was doing something different with it)

I guess the obvious question is what made those web 2.0 backlinks better than the the ones that caused your other sites to drop? You kind of left that out...

I thing you are right about this... the last update is more about the on-site and less about the off-site...

What is make me nervous what G try to achieve? The last to update are very aggressive and make a lot of waves and I can not believe they come with this last update and not knowing what will happen...

Right now, there is a big debate whether penguin is about on-site or off-site seo. In my opinion, its off-site seo as I have about 1000 pages on my site and most/if not all are indexed.

The only pages that are NOT ranking anymore are my money pages, which consist of five pages out of the 1000. The majority of the links I built are pointed toward my money pages b/c this is how I make money. All the other pages on my site target super long tail keywords and I am #1 or #2 for all those other pages and very few if any backlinks have been pointed toward those pages.

You would think if penguin was targeting on-site seo, then all of my other pages would not be ranked either. My 2 cents...

I think Google wants relevancy in your site on page and off page as well. On page they want to know what your site is about but dont want to see keyword stuffing and off page theyre looking if your site has backlinks from relevant sites and that theyre high PR

I think instead of backlinks etc, now google is taking into consideration how many unique indexed pages and how many visitors per month visiting.

This is an angle I haven't heard yet; while I don't think the size of the site is entirely relevant, it most likely plays some role as a ranking factor. More interesting is the bounce rate. Users that don't stay on the page for more than a few minutes generally indicate that a site is of low-quality, and we all know that google uses this information as a ranking factor. The question is whether or not this has become more relevant. I'm guessing no, because so far there are plenty of sites that deliver a great user experience that are getting slapped down.

Ive been ranking some of my old ezine article pages and web2.0s using Senuke very quickly since penguin I just been using 3 social networks with article builder 10 articles spun together on the 1st teir and then everything else behind them. I have just been using random anchors "click here", "this link", "my website" etc no keywords in anchors at all and within 2 days I had a weebly 1 page site that I hadn't done much backlinking to before penguin at number 2 for a competitive term.

i just had a site i'm building (authority site with 1k+ pages) go from page 5 (at creation) to the top of page 2 for a low-mid comp keyword (5k+ exact search monthly, avg pr on page 1 of 3.4) after only doing 70 social bookmarks and 1k ap style profile links from author accounts at article directories (haven't even published the articles yet, just registered the accts)
so i'd say the same stuff works, just crap links won't work
(profile about me was keyword heavy for the keywords and had lsi in it, was also 100% spun with perfect readability and a 20x20 comparison showed only 6 matches over 30% similar)

I think diversification and quality of the backlinks would really matter from now on. Further the contents have to be of ultra high quality. I made a new site today and I will be working on some new strategies. If I am able to rank, I will post a thread about that.

Post-Penguin is going to be tough to rank.

Yes it woudl help to know what was different about the web 2.0 that you say helped your site..

Yeah..........Three Things always need for traffic or ranking purposes :-

Diversification
Quality of the Back links
High Quality Content.

Whats I have observed from the various google updates is that its always the High Good quality links that matters. Links from authority sites are always valued by Google.

I don't think anyone can really say they know how to beat Penguin just yet it is too early. The update seems to be
so random that once you think you have it figured out another site with the same stats didn't get hit.

One thing that i have heard a lot about lately is the backlink vs traffic thing. Why would you have 1000 backlinks but
minimal traffic. It makes sense that google could figure out you are building links.
I have a webstore with over 700 indexed pages. I add new pages everyday and those pages are ranking fine. Its my
home page and other money pages which have been hit. Offsite in my opinion is the problem.
Will be good to see how it all turns out over the next couple of weeks

Seems like people did not really take my post seriously.. even got an angry message for posting it but all I wanted was to help. To clarify; you get a nice little link in your YT-profile to your moneysite. Use that one as tier 1 alone.

Spam your YT-profile. Nough said.

I am doing these steps to get again rankings in Google.

1) high PR Web 2.0 with unique & qualities content
2) Bookmark with high PR websites
3) Top 15 Articles directories
4) top 5 Press Release
5) Create RSS for all & ping
6) Create brand with top Social Media websites.

Observing the rankings of army of my sites, I think there might be some offsite/onsite ratio involved.

All the sites I had worked on had very diverse link profile, pretty much any type of link you can think of. All sites have PR of 3-5, DA over 50.

The only thing I can find in common with keyword rankings is that pages that got hit were optimized well both onpage & offpage. The URLs that rank well have either very keyword aggressive backlinks with bad onsite SEO (especially the title) or the other way around.
