I've been using a few indexing services to help search engines discover my articles more easily and to improve my rankings, as part of the ongoing SEO work on my website. I currently rely on two different tools; however, while using them, I've noticed a behavior that I find quite peculiar and, in some ways, paradoxical.
Initially, the services seem to work flawlessly: the submitted URLs are crawled and appear on Google within a matter of minutes or, at most, a few hours. The problem arises later. Whenever I request the indexing of new pages, some of the ones that were already showing up in the search results seem to disappear. In other cases, these pages can no longer be found through a standard Google search, even though they still appear to be properly tracked within Google Search Console.
Recently, I noticed something even stranger. While alternating between the two indexing tools, an article that used to rank consistently on the first or second page—depending on the keyword—suddenly vanished from the search results. When I checked the URL status via Google Search Console, the system gave me the message: 'Crawled - currently not indexed'.
This whole situation has left me puzzled. I struggle to understand how a page that was actually visible on Google could later be dropped from the index, especially after submitting new URLs for completely different content targeting different keywords. It almost feels as though pages are being swapped out, even though there is absolutely no topical or semantic overlap between the articles I've published.
To avoid raising any red flags with Google’s algorithms, I took a cautious approach: instead of submitting large batches of URLs all at once, I chose to request indexing on a daily basis. I did this specifically to prevent the blog from being flagged as spam. However, I’m no longer sure if this strategy was actually effective.
Initially, I was convinced that indexing tools were a great way to fast-track my content's visibility on Google and complement my on-site SEO efforts. As time goes by, though, I’m starting to second-guess this assumption.
Another aspect that puzzles me has to do with traffic. Some articles were genuinely ranking on the first few pages of the search results—whether I searched while logged into my account or in incognito mode—but despite this, they weren't generating a single visit. This made me question the actual stability or authenticity of those rankings, although I admit I might just be overthinking it out of an abundance of caution.
Has anyone ever experienced similar behavior, or could anyone shed some light on what might be happening? It would be incredibly helpful to get some insights from those of you with more experience regarding how indexing and Google's algorithm actually work.
