PayPal Scams

Posting this in Ebay forum, if this is not the correct place to ask about PayPal please tell me.

Is scamming PayPal buyers really as easy as I think it is? PayPal states on their website that even if you don't provide a SSN/ Passport, you can still RECEIVE and WITHDRAW funds, as long as you are not withdrawing to your bank account.

Hypothetically you could sell a fake item to a buyer, and upon receiving payment, purchase digital gift cards with your PayPal via a service such as Gyft. Once the money leaves your PayPal account, what can they do to stop it? The buyer then would file a complaint about being scammed, and PayPal would charge your account for the amount, but how would they catch you if you used fake information and a proxy to access the service?

Searching "PayPal scammer caught" reveals no actions taken by PayPal to find and persecute scammers. Someone with more knowledge on this subject please enlighten me on what PayPal does to catch scammers other then sell the debt to a 3rd party reclamation service.

PayPal does chase scammers and remember that FRAUD is a criminal offence.

It always perplexes me when someone's first post is a scam related one.

I think his question was clear, and a valid argument, no reason accusing him of wanting to scam! I think paypal has thought of this scenario and lot more already though.

Did I really just read a post about discussing the consequences of scamming Ebay and Paypal and how to do so? Are people really that hard up for intelligence that they would put 15 hours into a fake account and scam instead of a method that would work and scams nobody? That is a sad, sad thread.

Its 2014. There will be an electronic trail. They will see where the money left the account, what you bought and at what time. That will allow them to work out which gift card is yours. They'll then probably either cancel that card on the spot or wait for you to use it so they can be 100% certain of who and where you are, then send some not so nice men in suits to discuss your online activities.

Ebay and paypal makes it possible with not asking so much questions for people to buy and sell so that they can also grow and win. You must learn to do good business in this world. Do what's right not what's wrong including everthing in life not just money.
