PayPal closed account, refusing to return MY MONEY (Over $8000)

This was honestly a good read. Sorry to hear about your misfortune. The large response is great though. And now know that no matter what I sale to limit the amount of funds I keep in paypal.

I've read GreenGoblins thread, I know my stuff don't worry, just never came across such problems with paypal

With that amount of money I would not wait. You are NOT guaranteed to get it back, and don't be so sure it's because of what you were selling. They can do this for ANY reason at all. It has happened to a TON of people.

Get a lawyer. There is a guy on the WF that just went thru this. Go to the WF to the off-topic sub-forum. You will see the thread.

Cheers for the advice guys, appreciated.

Thats why never use paypal, consider using wire transfer
I got my 200USD frooze by paypal and i think i would never had them back..
Although it's just a small amount of money compared to yours and i'm really sorry to hear it

I've been there. Here's my advice. I would just wait 180 days if i were you. Once 6 months have passed you will get a nice email saying that your funds are available to withdrawal. You will then be able withdraw your money to your card or bank account.

Your account will still remain LIMITED but you will be able to withdraw all your money.

It happened to me before and i'm glad it did. At least i didn't spend the money right away and i had the time to think what i really want to do with them. I had a lot more money than you frozen in my account so don't worry. You will get them back.

Hope this helps.

You will get it out eventually, I have lost many Paypals in the past in random names. When they asked for proof I let them sit until the time it up, add a current bank acct, and request withdraw. Have always gotten the money, highest account had 5k in it. They cannot keep it that would be illegal.

I think never let your account hold more than 400$ at once

They care about big numbers but not small and a lot of ones

So basically as you received money transfer to your bank account

so they are holding the money for 180 day...what happens after that? do they return the money to your bank account?
After the 180 days you can either transfer it to your bank account or request a check. I had this happen to me a few years ago....did they ever say why they closed your Paypal? It does suck though because you cannot and will not be able to buy anything with your Paypal money, so do not try. They completely freeze your funds but you can still get paid through your Paypal account. They honestly should not be allowed to do it because that is interest they are gaining off of your $8000 for that six month period. Paypal is full of so many problems anymore, and it sucks that there is no good FREE alternative to it for online marketers. What I started doing was at the end of everyday transferring my money directly out of my paypal account into CASH. NOT just transferring it to your bank account. Whenever you get a new Paypal all you have to do is request a Debit card and then you can go remove as much money as you want with just a $5 ATM fee.

Yeah this happened to me as well but I got my money back after 180 days. You have to withdraw it to your account though. You can't transfer it to another pp account.

I guess you can kiss your money goodbye. I didn't get mine back after 180 days.

But I don't understand, how can you keep $8000 on your PayPal account? Unbelievable...

You gotta be kidding me!! You left $8000 in your Paypal account!! Once gone, gone for good.

Do you have any sort of reason they gave you for not giving your money back after 180 days?
Doing so is illegal, assuming its your real information (or something similar to your real info)

They are not refusing to return your money, they will give back 100% of it after 6 months.

That's their TOS and policy (sadly) and they have the right to do that to any account they deem as risky. Wait it out, and you'll get your money back. In the mean time, appeals won't help you, and your only bet is to use a new account, that will probably be opened by some friend or relative of yours (as when PayPal ban you, they ban your name, address, ID for life).

It depends on which state you're in, in at least 12 states Paypal (or any money transmitter) cannot hold it for 180 days.
Washington I believe is only 10 days. Paypal lost a rather large 3 billion dollar lawsuit for just that reason 2 years ago.

All these problems with PayPal I keep reading about, are these Verified Business Accounts or
Personal accounts?

Just curious!

I created a new PayPal account, transfered $100 to the new account, then payed for some service and after paying still had $50 or so in my account. Right after I paid they limited my account don't know exactly why (I guess because of the VCC I used), and when I contacted support they said I can get my money back after 180 days. I logged in after 180 days and surprise: my money wasn't there anymore. So I said may they use the money for funeral.

I wonder when PayPal will be regulated as a real bank and be obligated to follow the federal banking laws..

Your money can't just "disappear", did you try to contact them after? What did they say...
