Panic Disorder sucks

I will have a panic attack on occasion. Last month I had a panic attack about 2 hours before I was to get on a flight. I was freaking out and was willing to drive home 800 miles so I didn't have to get on a plane. The problem was I could not find a rental car. Its the damndest thing, because I have flown over 100 times in my life and all the sudden freaked out. I was crying and shaking and everything. It happens to me once in a while so I know how you feel. I manage it though by just trying to stay stress free. Doesn't happen often enough to require meds or anything. So I feel you bro.

I'm sorry to hear that man. A close family friend of mine goes through this. I think they prescribed him Ativan or something along those lines and he does much better now.

I hear (like another member said) that St. Johns Wart is good natural way to help combat things of this nature.

My suggestion....go hang out with the monkey! What could be more relaxing?

@Harro
Never go for drugs known as anti depressants.Drugs are not the only solution.Besides, you will be dependent on drugs as time pass.Drug is not the BEST solution.

Good luck.

Hi being in a medical profession totally disagrree with this!
Why make your life unbearable if you don't have to.
If you need it alwaays seek for a medical professional help.
For example Zoloft (made by Pfizer) is an excellent help.

but don't take it before seeing your doctor

best luck to you!

A couple of things......st. johns wort doesn't work for everyone. Depends on the severity of the matter. Also, you definetly need to figure out what causes your anxiety like the psych student said. Also, figure out what are your true passions and surround yourself around a circle of friends that fosters that. I believe that when you start to soul search it curbs your demons.

I suffer from post traumatic stress syndrome as well as seasonal affective disorder. I also, have had a few panic attacks. St. Johns Wort works for me. Also, I notice when I try and foster my real dreams I get a high that curbs my depression. Know thyself is crucial for you to curb or overcome your anxiety. You have to figure out the causes of it and curb it. Nobody knows you like you. Lastly, I exercise because it is part of my love and my master plan to be the greatest that ever lived. I know what caused my depression and I know what curbs it. If you love exercise or feel a need to do it then do it, it does raise your endorphin levels.
Code:
The action of endorphins relaxes a person's psychic and gradually it removes the tension generated by the panic attacks. In this way the chain reaction is ...

Looking forward to hearing your success within the next few months.

P.S. If your current friends and family ain't helping you become "a better you", then you need to create a new "Team Harro" that revolve around your passions.

Sorry to hear about this bro,

Forget all that drug stuff. They cure one thing and then go on to cause other undesirable side effects. These are usually rushed during testing and you will find out in ten years that they cause cancer or something!

I am a strong believer in homeopathy. read this

Home Remedies For Panic Attacks

Kava has been known to reduce panic anxiety attacks and depression. Kava contains kavalactones. This has a relaxing effect and can also help you sleep better. However, don't Use Kava If You're Pregnant.

Kava kava, as it's sometimes called, can be bought in health food stores. However, don't just go off and buy it. Speak to a specialist first. There have been reports of it causing liver problems.

It is also not recommended for use by pregnant or lactating women. Not enough research at present has been done, so for women in this category, don't even risk it.

Passion flower and lemon balm are two herbs that seem to produce anxiety-reducing effects. If you are taking medication for a thyroid problem, then it's best not to take anything that contains passion flower.

Lavender essential oil is good to help with calming when feeling anxious/panic. I usually carry a small bottle with me or put some on a cotton ball and keep it in a zip lock bag. The aromatheraphy really helps to focus the mind. It's kinda like programming the mind to 'calm' once I smell the lavender

Arguably, the most popular and well-known herbal preparation for panic attacks, anxiety disorders and depression is St. Johns Wort. It's probably used more for depression.

It seems to be quite effective for depression, if it's not severe. In general, St. Johns Wort seems to be well-tolerated.

Homeopathic remedies are additional natural remedies for panic attacks, and they use dilutions of some herb or flower essence. They are another resource to try. For example Bach Flower Remedies, a variety of homeopathic solutions created from flower essences includes one specific remedy called the Rescue Remedy.

The rescue remedy is create specifically for those in the midst of trauma and any type of anxiety type of experience.

Other remedies (unrelated to Bach Flower Remedies) include "Kali phos 6x" which is a nerve tonic. It is said to be helpful in the case of a rundown nervous system due to worry or excitement.

Home panic attack sufferers have noted that self-talking techniques can help reduce the severity of the attacks. For example, during an attack, the sufferers tell themselves that, yes, they are having an attack, but it will be all right. The idea that they can experience the attack, yet know they will be all right after it seems to help some panic attack sufferers feel more calm and in control.

Deep breathing can help calm down the hyperventilating, or rapid shallow breathing, that often accompanies a panic attack. Aromatherapy, in which the sufferer smells comforting aromas associated with pleasant childhood memories may also be calming. Daily exercise has been shown to help panic attack sufferers cope with the attacks better than if exercise is done only occasionally.

You should find this useful, well, unless you are a pregnant lactating woman! :D

Panic disorder can continue for months or even years, depending on how and when treatment is sought. If left untreated, it may worsen to the point where the person's life is seriously affected by panic attacks and by attempts to avoid or conceal the condition.

Sorry to hear it mate, its tough I know.

I cant believe how many people are saying not to take or screw medication. Are you all doctors?!!
Seriously they are there for a very good reason (after all the NHS isn't going to pay for them if they don't do anything are they!)

I can see where people are coming from when they say its better not to use them, but its a fine line between a short-term stress related condition that you don't need medication and a longer term condition - the latter of which seems to apply in Harro's case. Medication isnt the 'solution to all' but helps treat (along with other methods) the underlying 'reason' for a long-term condition. It is only when you tackle this that you can hope to to fully recover, otherwise it simply comes back.

* Stay of weed - it may seem to help, but only when you are off it (say after 6+ months) you realise it actually made it 10x worse.

* Don't drink too much - personally I found this didn't make a difference, but then I don't drink much/often anyway.

* If you are on prescribed medication, be very careful with things like St. John's Wort etc. My doctor told me outright on several occasions I was not to take them, they are very very bad. The same goes with alternatives, I tried some for a couple of days and had a bad freaky reaction that scared the hell out of me.

Kalms on the other hand are fine, I probably went through a 200 bottle a week. Start taking them regularly until you are feeling better, say 3 or 4 in the morning, lunchtime, dinnertime and night, then reduce it down. When you are having an attack take like 6/7 tablets in one go, they kick in after about 15mins. The doctor said while its obviously not normal, its perfectly fine, they don't harm you or react with other tablets at all. Obviously this is higher than the 'stated dose' but there's no reason for a dosage on there, its just a guideline to let people (in normal circumstances) know what to take.

Three very good points you must try and remember. DONT get yourself stuck in a catch-22 situation as its hell trying to dig yourself out!

they don't really help you get over your social disorder that has been brought on from years of suffering from the panic attacks.

where the person's life is seriously affected by panic attacks and by attempts to avoid or conceal the condition.

I got over this by purposely getting myself into situations that would usually trigger an attack rather than trying to avoid these situations. It took years but it was well worth it. I'm 90% back to normal now.
[although with this last one, don't attempt this straight away, get yourself sorted a bit more first. Then ease yourself into it]

Hope you are feeling better soon mate :)

I feel your pain amigo! I don't even want to remember that feeling, my panic attack was about 10 days ago, but thank God it only lasted for 2 days.

A good crack of the bones from a chiropractor and a massage work very good for me to relax a little.

Just keep identifying the triggers and find better ways to relax.

The best for you.

Panic attacks are mostly cured by meds. Sure you can try the hard way but its gonna be painful and take ages [and may not end good anyways]. SOmething with benzo will help preety fast..

OK wait....dealing with personal issues is the same as of worshipping a personal god, or, dealing with the death of a loved one. We all deal with it differently.....

I will not say to take or dont take medication.....I will not say to take or don't take home remedies.....

Each persons body reacts to things different....This whole thread is information and it will be up to the OP to ultimately decide whats best....

My only suggestion is to look at the possible side effects for either before taking.

i feel your pain harro.. oh and if you're wondering why i Thanked your post, it's because i'm in the same boat. i've tried so hard to break out of it, but .. you know. i hope you find some answers man, and if you do, please share. we all love you, don't forget that.

By the headline, I thought Harro meant that the NICHE "Panic Disorder" sucks. I was just running that keyword through Market Samurai today.

My girlfriends got it...I feel for ya brother.

I've had severe anxiety for 3 years now, it's incredibly shit.

I think the best solution is to get on with your life and hope it drifts away.
