I think 301-ing my sites to new domains would be a good idea. After being penalized for unnatural links a few weeks ago (dropping 30 - 40 positions) and then this penalty (wiping the rankings off completely), starting on a fresh new domain might be the best option. Anyone else going to try this?

Maybe it hasnt hit Australia yet. Cos I have been killed on .com but still top on .com.au. Fingers crossed I'll be ok. Doubt it though.

If it's only on page SEO, then this is piss easy to fix - at least for me, all I should need to do is fiddle around with page titles, H1s, page names etc.
If it's exact match anchors, well I've been careful not to have too many of those anyway so I should be able to build my way out of that.

Im getting 15k uv a day before the update but now its on 1k only..

Wasn't affected by the update a week or so ago...now I have been totally shafted. My main 2 keywords were ranked 4 and 7...now they aren't in the top 1,000. Just checked SESCOUT and the 10 keywords I have setup on there have all dropped by at least 300, some 500. There goes my $300/day e-commerce site.

I definitely think this is due to links and not on page SEO. There are much spammer websites ranking on the 1st page in my niche now but they all seem to have very little backlinks. My site had 6,000 words of genuine non-keyword-stuffed content on the homepage (seriously lol) and had 500 articles on it too. Got wiped off completely, but then I had built a huge amount of backlinks.
We just have to work out what it is about the links that Google is getting at.

First rule of war = never accept publicly what you did
IMHO, to me from my initial review it seems
Ranking Increase = squidoo, blogspot, forums, subdomains with links to them
Ranking Decrease = exact match domains, sites with lots of backlink from spun content sources, multiple links from same source(article directories etc)

by the way, I guess backlinks still work That crappy blogger page that was ranking for "make money online" (50K exact searches local) is now up to #2!!!!!

However, If this mess remains same, one thing is sure. Google has given "no penalty badge" for web 2.0, amazon and other such sites. I feel this because these kind of sites are the one's having the most spammy backlinks ever and still ranks on top.It makes sense because google for sure knows now that these sites are actually used for link schemes like pyramids by the Blackhatters, so web 2.0 are obviously treated special by the bots.

An internal page that I haven't changed in a year is now ranking at at 3 and 4 for the main keywords. The keywords that page is optimised for aren't even the keywords it's ranking for?! WTF?!
