If it's SEO - then it's links.
If it's traffic there are many other things you can try
The best idea is to mix both.
Despite the fear involved in SEO these days, links still win 99% of all battles. Npot building links because you are scared = not winning the SEO battle.
You can still get traffic though. The problem with that is traffic stops a few days after you stop working on it most of the time. It's constant. You work on traffic (none SEO mthods) you get visitors - as soon as you stop the visitor levels begin to drop.
SEO (links) means you work - then you can stop for days, weeks even months and the traffic just keeps coming.
That's my experience anyway.
The alternative is to become an authority yourself. Don't kid yourself that this is easy or quick though,. Think in terms of years.
But once you are an authority SEO will be done for you by your visitors creating links naturally.
None authority sites rarely have natural links.
