One Year Authority Site Project

Hello and welcome to my one year authority site journey. Starting today (May 21st, 2013) I plan to focus on one site and after a year, hopefully turn it into a authority.

A little about me: I've been collecting information from BHW for almost a year now, so don't expect me to NOT update this journey almost every day (I've noticed that new Internet Marketers stop updating after the first week/month).

I've created around 4 sites that brought in a good amount of money every month, I sold them all to start fresh and to see what I can accomplish if I focus on 1 site instead of 4. Also, I'm starting to run out of time due to certain choices I made.

I'm currently 19 years old and I've decided to move to a different country in early August for university.

What niche am I focusing on? I can't reveal exactly what niche I'm focusing on right now (I will reveal the website at the end of the journey), but I can tell you that it is fitness related.

What are my goals? To dominate my niche, improve my current skill set and hopefully help other BHW members with their IM endeavors.

How much do you plan on making from your business? After one year I expect to make around $2,000 per month (passive income).

Why do you have such a low goal? Because I'm realistic and this will be PASSIVE income, which means I can work on other projects and not worry about having to work on my site constantly (I will outsource most of the work at the end of the journey).

Are you starting from scratch on this website or are you resurrecting an old project? This site is not brand new, I worked on it for a couple of months (updated it around once a week) and then abandoned it, because my other sites were starting to make me money.

I thought people from Russia only drank vodka and wrestled with bears? I do both of those things in my spare time when I'm not working on my business.

I hope both you (BHW community) and I learn a lot from this journey.

Day 1

I actually started reviving this project about a week ago. Two website developers that I hired over the course of the week worked on the website (they did a great job making the website with very vague directions from me), but I just did not like the look of it. So I've decided to work on and edit the website myself (Delegating is a skill that I just do not possess yet, hopefully in time it will come).

Anyways, I fixed up the width and height of the site, waiting for my designer to make a new banner, changed the footer, gave the categories on the left a new look, created social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc...)

Tomorrow or after tomorrow, I expect to be able to finish the layout and start working on content creation and revising articles that are currently on the website.

Day 2

I spent a good chunk of my day making a business plan. I outlined the steps I need to do to make this venture successful. I have a huge to-do list!

1) Around half of my posts don't have Adsense (For some reason the widgets disappeared, will have to look into it).
2) Make a better footer
3) Review ALL posts and fix any errors (I have around 150 posts)
4) Interlink all posts and make sure that they have good SEO
5) Make all reviews more in-depth and longer (I've noticed I rank better when I have a longer review vs a short one)
6) Make sure everything above is done before adding any new content

There is still plenty of time in the day for me to make profit, but I'm not worry about this for now. I expect to start making decent money at the 4-6th month mark.

You might be wondering why I only made a business plan today (I did some tweaks to the layout as well, but mostly focused on my business plan), well this is the most important step!

If you're new to Internet Marketing or business in general, you MUST make a business plan. Write everything you need to do and how you're going to do it. If you're not organized, you probably won't succeed. A business plan helps you stay on track, so you always know what you have to do.

*Edit* I think the new Google update will bring a positive effect on my website. Check out these statistics from the start of May.



You can see that my average was around 30 UV per day for the first week and now it's stabilizing at 60-70. I assume that this is partially due to changes Google is making. What really fascinates me is that I literally have 0 SEO optimization right now and most of my posts are garbage (minus my reviews and around 10 posts that I did myself) and I'm ranking quite well for many keywords. I can't wait to see the traffic I'm going to get after 1-2 months (this is when I expect to have my site and posts completely optimized).

*Edit* Traffic has hit a two day high of 91 and then 107, I'm excited !

I'm not even disappointed at the earnings, because I know they will change eventually.

Decided to change my next steps. I'm going to write and outsource a few reviews of products before I start editing all of my articles (this will give the reviews time to rank while I work on editing)

A very frustrating day overall. Mainly due to the fact that a person I was trying to help get started in IM tried to steal my idea. I promptly asked a friend to neg SEO him when I found out. Hopefully he learns a lesson.

Added 2 reviews to the website today. Other than that, nothing new as of yet.

Maybe you should add google analytics to your site for better stats...My awstats on one of my sites would show that i have 240 visits per day but GA would show only 20...Im also trying to make some authority websites so i will keep a close eye on your journey...good luck

Day 5

Added 2 more reviews and edited some published articles.

I've been getting PM's asking why I'm only doing 2 reviews a day, well, these are 2.5-3.5k word product reviews. They're very in-depth and provide a lot of long tail keywords.

Quality wins over quantity in the long run.

I also installed the CMS Commander plugin, SEO and Clicky plugin by Yoast.

I noticed that my UV numbers are much different when comparing Awstats to Clicky, I did not know they could be so different. Thanks for the recommendation Pike222, I sent some Rep points your way .

Hopefully my Amazon earnings will change eventually, almost 400 clicks and only 2 orders.

Hopefully a lot of you who are new to IM will understand that there is no "magic bullet" or "get rick quick scheme", it takes time, good planning and a lot of effort (especially at the beginning).

I'm not too fond of Amazon honestly, I'm just doing some testing for now. Eventually, I will probably get rid of it completely.
