Hello BlackHatWorld!

I have a really really old website, which literally looks as old as it is. The content in it is completely outdated. I want to transform it completely. Make it responsive, modern and so on.

The problem is: in Google it is ranking 1st in the 1st page on one of the main keywords.
It has more than 40 referral sites and is receiving around 10k visitors per month and I don't really want to lose that traffic (duhh).

My question is: How my rankings would be affected if I deleted all the content and created it from zero?

Thank you.

Hello trying to add new content! I did not remove the content as it may affect traffic good luck

I forgot to ask the most important question to me. Is it possible to keep my rankings if I change my content completely? If so, how can I do it?

Thank you.

it's all about your traffic , so of the visitor like the new content that what will decide if you got plus or lose

Maybe you don't need to remove the old content if they are valuable and useful to your visitors. You can just add new content and rewrite the old one to make it more valuable. Add more data on your 1000 word post and boost it up to 2000-3000 words or more. Update your page with fresh and new design/layout. Make it faster, easier to navigate and mobile friendly.

Try to make your website:

1. Browser compatible
2. Mobile Responsive
3. New content with the good keyword density for which your are ranking.
4. You can introduce a small popup for your visitors and give heading lyk "what changes would you like to see? we are revamping website"
May be you'll good response and it will help you to keep connected with your audience.

PS: Don't change URL Structure :)

This will help you ;)

Try to maintain the same navigation and url structure, you might lose your rankings after you have updated everything and you might regain them depending upon what was making you rank in the first place.

Thank you for the answer. Do you think it would be possible to transfer my website to wordpress engine while containing the ranked URL?

I don't think there was enough emphasis on not changing your URL structure. THIS is the first thing that you have to keep in mind.

Definitely do NOT delete your old content, check what is ranking and what is not and act accordingly. If it has traffic, why would you screw that up? Try to revamp the contant, change design, layout, etc. You can do tons of changes without touching onsite SEO too much.

If you delete all your old content, you traffic will disappear completely. It's the age of the content that plays a huge role in your particular case. With new content, you would lose all the benefits.

Thank you for the reply. I will try to keep the old content as much as possible.

How do you check which keywords are ranking on your website?

And would it be effective to insert a 301 redirect code into the most ranked page?

Thank you.

Use Semrush or Serpbook. With Semrush you will see what you are ranking for immediatelly.

Not sure what you want to redirect and where really. Or why.

Let's say that there is a ranked page which is domain.com/ranked-page.

I want this page to redirect visitors to domain.com/

Does it make sense?

I honestly can't tell , one thing tho : with the change of the content there for sure should be some changes in the serp results , this ofc if your site has not been "trusted" yet and ranks solely on the power of the PBNs , you can write the content but with this one thing in mind : make changes on a few paragraphs each week and keep on eye on the kw density , not only the main kw but also the "product" density

Not really. That old page you redirected will not be ranking for anything anymore, so I don't see any point in that at all.
