Offpage Skyscraping

So, I'm considering a skyscraping technique to improve my traffic. However, instead of posting more blogs on my site, hoping for it to be better and attract links, I'm wondering it would be better to post onto a forum where my competitors are getting links from.
Could this be a good idea?
- Or is this just basic forum posting?

Forum links are the worst kinds of links to your website, if they would work than everybody would rank with just forum signatures.
Make the post on your website and post a smaller snippet of the post on the forum, this way if people want to know more they can go to your site

Why are forum links not good? What if the forum is a highly reputable one?
All my main competitors are getting plenty of traffic from there.

Your idea about posting snippets sounds way better, though. Will give that a go.

Whenever you are making keyword research and you see a forum post on the top 5 pos or some other user-generated content than you got urself a winning keyword, any website with good content can easily outrank a forum post. Just focus on selling your link on the post, do not be blunt and come from an angle
