Congratulations!

You're still young. This is the period of your life where you can experiment.

When you're 30 - you will probably want to settle down, have kids, have people rely on you -
which makes taking risk so much more difficult. You can't afford to mess up.

But now you can literally survive on ramen noodles living off a friends couch - which is exactly why it's the perfect time to take risk.

That combined with programming which is next to impossible to do if you're unmotivated in life.
It hinders your curiosity to learn and explore which makes for a bad programmer in the long run.

So again - congratulations. Don't second guess it. You made the right move.

I never had a real job.
Once worked as Technical Support for GMB enlistment project. Called it quit after 6 months as it was really consuming. Being working remotely for years - Welcome to the club buddy.

Good time in your life to roll the dice.

The first time I moved to Florida I was 25 but my life situation was a bit different. I had 2 children at the time, had just sold a home, had an interest in a Condo that were were renting out with a solid tenant and had a friend in the area we moved to who gave me a job as a bartender.

When I told my Mother I was moving to Florida without any real opportunity (a bartender is not how I wanted to live my life) she said it was not a good idea. My response was, "I'm 25, if it doesn't work out I'll have plenty of time to recover."

It worked out pretty good and I ended up with a real nice position with a huge company that gave me a tick on my resume to be able to move back up North and land a job that paid a little over 65K and that was in 1986 or 1987 (I forget the year we moved back up North.

What I learned during that process was an industry that was booming and ended up opening my own business in that industry that put a nice chunk of money in my hands.

Worse thing that can happen is you fail and have to go back.

Best thing that can happen is you will be tons happier and be able to make a nice living.

My bet is on the best thing happening.

as for me, sometimes i regret that i quit my job in 2011 but only mostly because besides 3k/m$ salary (never regreted that i lost these money) there were very nice colleagues, i and felt myself socialized AF.

Yes, that is something i am gonna miss..i did make bunch of friends at work. And the gossip, drinking, just hanging out, will miss them all.

This will be the best decision in your life or the worst!

Thanks emil. You are right. I couldn't (probably wouldn't) take big risk after 30s. It is either now or never.

Never planned to have a job either. This job was more for my ego. And it is time to quit.

yep, been following the best possible route so far. I guess making a mistake in 20s is okay . I am keeping an open mind tho. I am prepared mentally if this shit goes south. Hoping for the best tho. Remember your advise on quiting the job. It came in handy

Well, If I am being honest, I did learn a lot of things from the corporate job. How to deal with people, lot of social skills etc. So from that point of view it was not a bad investment. I know I am not missing out on anything. But yeah, you can defitely go straight to IM. I wish you all the best.

Sorry to disagree, if so. If anything, I will be much more cautious than someone who doesn't have a family to take care of. The truth is, you can do it any time in your life. It doesn't have to be < 30.

Agreed. And actually doing it earlier in your life if you end up getting in debt can set you back even further. It's a catch 22...

I think as long as you have savings in place and the start of the business then generally your fine at any time in your life.

I think and no offence OP if this is you, but quitting with nothing in place can be a mistake more so when the first day off starts with getting up at 10am instead of 7... At least you got some savings which is better than most than start.

Anyway not to derail.
