Per advice of many I conducted research on the backlinks of a site/competitor in my niche in order to take advantage of expired links and low comp kw's.
After review I want to say that this competing site is using weak backlinks (maybe PBN's) to rank.
The site is a heavy affiliate site and Semrush reports organic traffic at 164k/mo (315k/mo Jan. '18).
I have a couple questions:
1. Are there sure signs when one is using BH?
2. If they are BH techniques, should I too?
I'm sure the answer to question #2 may depend on what I want to do with my site.
The short answer would be: I have crazy experience in the niche of my site and my competitors. I'm pretty confident that my content is good...and getting better.
I want to quit my job and believe I'll need to monetize my site long term and beyond affiliate marketing aka books, products, online courses to generate a comparable income.
Of course I'd like to ramp this up asap BUT in the effort of doing so I don't want to get banned on my main money site especially if it's something I'm very knowledgeable at.
