Hi guys,
I've been doing web dev for years, but never really tried SEO in any form before, aside from the most basic white hat. In short, I am a programmer, not a marketer
After being laid off, a friend and I decided it was time to try and earn some independent income, so we launched a site geared toward some good potential keywords (we did research that part pretty well, and they are included in the domain name), signed up for Adsense and paid someone in India to "promote" us by submitting to various directories, and providing backlinks. I suppose that was the part where it went wrong. Although we are seeing some income in Adsense, and webmaster tools claims we have literally hundreds of thousands backlinks (!), the site just doesn't come up if "link:...." is typed in google. Is this a bad sign? What can we do to rectify this? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I really am eager to learn this art. Thanks in advance!
