Niche Ecommerce Website Growth Potential

Hi guys
if i create a niche ecommerce website about "dog food" for instance with "petsy.com" domain.
i make all over the website about "dog food", in the home page title and everywhere.
even i build many backlinks to home page with "dog food" anchor text.
can i add "cat food category" in the future like 2 years later and change the home page title from "dog food" to "pet food" ?
i make new backlinks with "pet food" to home page but what happens to those "dog food backlinks" to home page?
IS THIS POSSIBLE?

this is a bad idea, you're going to get penalized for overused anchors. Much better to use branded anchors instead of keyworded ones...

of course you can. It's your site and you can do with it whatever you want.

Now, if you're asking whether or not google will penalize you for this then yeah, it might happen because google are our lord and saviour and they've brainwashed us to dance to however they sing, and if they don't want you to have passions and interests of your own you must do whatever google tells you or else you won't get traffic that they've monopolized legally or otherwise (a lot of time it's otherwise)...

But when / if their monopoly ends (which I feel will happen by 2030 at the latest) you might regret abiding by all idiotic rules of google ... But it's true that if you want to depend on google's traffic you don't want to mix cats and other pets into your site yet. Just focus on dogs and go with that only, or else you might dilute your topical authority which is very important for feeding and calibrating google's AI ranking in google,

no one can predict what google is going to do 2 years from now, so it's impossible for anyone to give you an honest reply. But - if things were to stay as they are today - nothing should happen to those links, they'll continue being counted on when google decide your rankings as they'd be considered relevant backlinks (because your site talks about dogs, and the anchor texts are about dogs, so google can see this relevancy and they'll mind it in their calculations)

You can definitely expand your niche site later, but be cautious. Changing the homepage title from "dog food" to "pet food" is fine, but it might dilute the keyword relevance of your existing "dog food" backlinks.

You are better building out new relevant articles on their own pages and using internal linking to pass the juice.

You can start with a niche focus on "dog food" using the petsy.com domain and build backlinks with "dog food" anchor text. Later, you can expand to include "cat food" and change your homepage title to "pet food." Your existing "dog food" backlinks will still point to your homepage and retain some relevance, especially if dog food remains a major part of your site.
