[NEW] Negative SEO Method?

interesting, i was actually thinking of exploring mechanical turk to increase my serp rankings using this method. Looks people have thought of the other way instead.

Please check https://www.reddit.com/r/SEO/comments/1idr0e/ive_seen_quite_a_few_obvious_seo_tasks_on_amazons/ in the SlideShow that's posted it states explicitly that MTurk does not allow such jobs.

don't you mind asking if your domain has any number on it's name ? example: donaldtrump33

Don't mind, but no - I have no numbers in my domain but some competitors seem to have them so you still might be on to the right niche :-)!

I am like 80% sure someone just wants to mess the analytics, whatever you said can be done by using a traffic exchange group(mainly the ones which provide a bot to run in background), the person must have put the referrer as google.de,time as10-15 secs and would have targeted worldwide traffic.

Now if this is the case then no you are not going to get any rank drop or anything from google, But there is a slight possibility it can be something else which can only be found after analyzing the analytics data.

This is quite interesting post, I commenting so I can watch the progress, I found few of web hosting clients faced same issues before. I will see if I can find what solutions they had that I will share.

Now I'm going to be thinking about what on earth you're selling that necessarily involves numbers within your domain...

It's bothering me! Haha

By the way OP, this probably crossed your mind already, but could you install CloudFlare so the bots get a captcha upon entry?

Apologies if this is common knowledge. I know next to nothing about SEO.

1) Google knows bot traffic, and they know foreign traffic. If its an attack its using proxy, and unless they spend a LOT on them Google can tell.

2) Manipulating SERPS with fake clicks/traffic doesn't really work anymore. I was using a product for it to great success to boost my rank until the method hit a huge wall about 16 months ago and stopped working all together for me.

Keep an eye on it and if it fails to dip your rank and doesn't drain your resources it seems a non issue. Odds are it will fail and then stop.

I get your points ThopHayt, but I have the strong feeling Google is to be easily fooled by the method in my OP.

Recently, I've made sure no 'strange' traffic can reach my site, and my bounce dropped drastically.

Needless to say, my ranks are back where they were and are even rising again (no SEO done, just excluding the bouncing traffic).

Any opinions?

Its possible, but I know that it is very difficult to fool Google for gains. Getting Google to accept fake Adsense traffic, or recognize fake SERP traffic is a tough chore. So IF such an attack were to be successfu, it would have to be strong enough to fool Google. Which means the attacker would have to spend BIG, and do so for a very long time. In essence he would have to be willing to spend more than its worth to (maybe) harm one single rival. None the less I'm doing tests on the positive side of this theory now, as I've become curious. I used to use fake SERP traffic to boost rank in the past, but the tactic died... but perhaps what is old has become new again so I will test the theory.

OP someone is working negative seo on your site, for sure, i had bad experience before 2 months with bot traffic and i was blackmailed

There's more evidence CTR matters and bounce doesn't, but really only G knows.

The thing is, I'm SURE it does... but now that Google has Chrome browser and OS they have a more controlled means to measuring it in their own environment where they can more accurately vet users to ensure they are "real" users. So Google probably does use bounce and CTR as a metric, but it may be heavily weighted toward the behavior of "qualified" Chrome users as a measuring stick. If you have a 70% bounce rate wit Chrome users who are logged into Google services and who Google knows are human, but you have a 10% bounce rate in other browsers I'm guessing Google will believe what their own base tells them.

I'd appreciate it if you'd post your findings in your thread, this is becoming a very important matter (mark my words). Negative SEO has never been easier, not even ordering a Fiverr blast comes close.

Thanks for confirming this! Please, if you have any more information - post it in this thread.

I know what you mean, but I get the strong feeling this doesn't come from your own experience. My words do, and I'm fairly sure bounce rate has a HUGE impact on rankings, which makes total sense.

And still with Chrome, these statistics are able to be mimicked. And you said it yourself, you're guessing - whilst I've actually experienced the effects and after banning this traffic are even more confident about my OP.

No hard feelings at all if my post may throw that feeling, I'm just trying to get rid of guesses and put some facts down here so we all can be sure of the effects these visits and bounces have on the ranks of a website.

There are a lot of bots out there which you could use as a weapon. I'm also very interested in how to solve such problem on one of my sites

Thank you for share but its not good.

Your answer is no good, because you can't claim why my thread is no good. Come by when you have some proof, otherwise just don't say anything please.

Same here, hence the start of this thread.

I remember from over a year ago I noticed in some microjob task kind of sites there was a tasks that do exactly what you are describing it's go like that :
task title: search and click
task description:
1- go to google.co.uk
2- search one of these words >(URL contains img with the KW)
3- in first or second page you will find page with title (xxxxx) and the domain contain (zzzz) > click it
4- stay for 20 sec
5- and then close the tab

if the freelancer do the work he will get somthing like 0.08$ and so on.
I think its was a ranking method !??
how did it affect your ranking??
and do people really willing to spend money in negative SEO on others rather than spent there money to improve there SEO and there websites :(

This would seem to me to be the equivalent of bot traffic, and also wouldn't be proxied so it probably wouldn't have any impact.

Then again, take that with a grain of salt because I don't know that much about SEO

Yes, this is a very nifty thing to mention - it's the https://forums.aws.amazon.com/index.jspa thing.

Please note that Amazon has acknowledged the fact that these jobs were solely ordered to hurt other webmasters and they have therefor banned the service and people that provided it.

I've mentioned http://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/hiring-make-2-00-6-00-per-hour-by-searching-and-clicking.846225/ before, because it's EXACTLY the same - and it will hurt your site, especially when using Google Analytics which registers the bounces.

It has impact. Significant impact.

Edit: Especially when no proxies and Chrome is used - but other browsers can have just as bad of an impact as Chrome does.
