Need VPS hosting can anyone recommend

First off, I tried searching but VPS is too short to work, it just comes up 0 matches found.

I'm looking to change my hosting from shared on hostgator, mediatemple and cirtexhosting to a VPS, but i'm looking to pay around 30-35/month with Cpanel... I would go hostgator but adding cpanel to their cheapest VPS hosting solution is 49.99 otherwise its 39.99 for VZ(which I know nothing about)

I might be able to swing $40/month for cpanel if someone knows of a host that has it for that price, but $50 is too much for me at the moment.

Not to knock a service that you obviously support.

But as someone with no ulterior motive (nor owning a hosting company) & a degree in networking technologies....

I usually check a hosts main site, to check the stability of their network. No doubt a hosts main server is going to be usually their most stable & reliable.

Well here's the results i got from multiple locations all over the globe.....

That's about the most "all over the place" ping times I've seen before from a site (even under a DDOS situation)

I would say their network stability based on their main site is questionable at the moment at best. IMO
 
Here is an example of a normal ping (to one of my friends sites)

I use linode.com for most stuff. They have five datacenters (four in the US, one in the UK).

They provide scripts for setting up common server configurations, but I'm not sure if that includes CPanel/Webmin type stuff. I've written scripts that fetch/compile all my software automatically.
 
vpsland are cheap, they have a windows server 2003 box (512mb ram, 15GB Storage) for $18/month. Im undecided about their reliability, i used them for a few months and had some problems but other people have said their great, check them out.

actually i have put it on hold for a week or 2 financially, but its giving me more time to compile a list of good VPS's some in my price range... thanks for the help everyone who posted.

This is an excellent way to test a potential host. How are you able to do this? I would like to be able to compare hosts?

I know how to test the speed of my ISP; but how do you test a host? I have been searching for good hosting from the Philippines. With most hosting providers you never know what backbone connection they have to the internet.

Please share?

I am hosting 24 sites on 3 shared providers paying @$300 in total.
Total disk usage is 27GB and avg monthly bandwidth is 1.6GB

I doubt I can get a good deal from any vps based on my above stats.
