Need tips to help quit smoking.

20th Nov, 2011. Had a severe cardiac episode... it was 2nd in 6 months. At 8 PM, went to cardiologist. He said either stop smoking tonight or stop living tomorrow morning. I stopped (smoking obviously!!) :) better go cold turkey than go cold storage! It wasn't a difficult decision at all -- at that time, believe me!

Never touched one again.

So, its better go cold turkey than cold storage... :D

My stepfather just had the exact same experience. They told him if he didn't quit smoking, the next stroke he has will be fatal. He still hasn't stopped smoking. So good for you for listening.

Do tell him my story... I will pray for him to go 'cold turkey' immediately. :)

Allen carrs easy way to quit smoking. Really helped me.

Basically made me realise that however much you think smoking is nice/relaxing or that you are phsycofically hooked or whatever, it's actually just a chemical thing - your body wants to keep topping up the no nicotine level.

Once I realised that, it became a challenge to break away and stop.

Wish there was some kind of blackhat method or bot to help quit. :)

Out of all the people that i know that quit, they all tell me they did it cold turkey and they never touched a cigarette again.

this is how i quti:
1. took a week of job and didnt leave the house (must remove any pressure that keeps you reaching for cigs)
2. whnever i felt like smoking i took a beer, or wine (or worse)
3. after 3-4 days i didnt feel the need for cigs anymore

but it takes months to stop thinking about going back to cigs

now its been 4-5 years and i can have an ocasional cigs with friend while having a beer or wine, and not to woory about getting back to bad habit

Not even gonna read the thread :)
I quit almost 7 years ago and used nothing.

I came home from work with 1 cig left and couldn't be arsed going to the shop, just thought screw it, I'll save this until bed time, then when the time came I decided to see what I felt like in the morning.
Morning came and felt OK so thought 'let's see how I feel later'.

This went on and on and here I am.

The worst feelings were in the first 4 days but after that it just got easier and easier. Seriously, just put up with them first few days and you'll see.

Don't bother with patches, gum etc. They will just drag it out. They are just a replacement you don't need.
Bite the bullet and quit, it's easy.
Mind over matter ;-)

Good luck!

The only way for me to do it was cold turkey. Its really rough but when I tried to cut down I would just go down then up and down with my consumption. The first couple weeks are rough but find another vice. I just drank tea and kept myself busy.

We just had several customers email us, saying that they switched from cigarettes to Bedford Slims e cigs and eventually stopped smoking altogether.

I smoke but my wife quit four years ago and she didn't use anything. She says you really have to want to quit. You could prepare yourself mentally by saying to yourself, I'm gonna quit next Friday. She has still the pack that she opened four years ago, but she never touches it.

if you are chain smoker , these gums/patches wont work , i don't believe if you even promises the love one / public oth / gift & rewards wont end this smoking habbit .
you should bring deep inner feelings to stop smoking . Try to be engaged , dont hang around with friends who smoke !

Try Champix, These pills helped a lot of people over here!
The drug works by binding to nicotine receptors in the brain. Nicotine stimulates the production of dopamine, which is the "pleasure" chemical in the brain.
By attaching itself to the receptors normally used by nicotine, Champix fools the brain into thinking it's had nicotine - so satisying the craving for a cigarette.
The drug has a good success rate. After 12 weeks, 44 per cent of those taking Champix have given up smoking...

I quit a pack a day habit years ago - exercise helped me a lot and just changing up my routine a bit.

You won't stop smoking until YOU want to quit. Seven months ago, after smoking for 30 years or so, I said enough was enough and quit like that overnight. I had tried to quit years before using all the gums and patches etc. but they didn't work. I also found that weening never worked for me because after only a few weeks I would end up smoking more than I had been before I started weening.

In the end I think it just comes down to will power. If you really want to stop smoking....you will!

This I always find the most interesting.. A lot of people do it. The fact that you cant sleep, feel like you are going to die is BECAUSE OF THE CIGARETTES. It is because you have put that shit in your system. But instead of saying, wauw this is what cigarettes do to me, I will stay off of them forever, you decide to smoke some more to get rid of the symptoms.. Such a twisted way of thinking imho

Well aren't you a Happy Harry.

I did it after I reprogrammed my stupid brain via NLP.

All the information is available for free. Now act upon it.

The most important thing for you to do after you quit smoking is filling the "void" with something you like. Not another addiction but maybe a hobby or something like that.

To your success! From my own experience I can say that reclaiming control over your mind and body is a superb feeling.
