You don't really want to quit. You've given over a part of your identity to nicotine and for all the horror that goes with that, there's a part of you that is content with it. It's not what you do, it's who you are. You're a smoker. When you decide to stop being a smoker, you'll stop smoking. Simple as that.
I decided one day to stop being a smoker. I hated myself. I used to compartmentalize it and try to rationalize the situation and say things like "I hated that part of myself.", but I was lying to myself (and anyone that would listen to me whine), and believing it. It (being a smoker) really was who and what I was. The day I faced the full impact of that truth, and what it meant, was the day I quit cold turkey. It's been more than 2 years.
People's noses would wrinkle when I came by, sometimes their faces would shrivel in disgust. I smelled horrible. I was an inconsiderate pig. I polluted other people's air. I told myself that despite all that, I still had some positive qualities, but that actually was a lie. I used all these imagined "positive qualities" to redirect attention away from the most-relevant truth that I was a disgusting smoker and eventually I was going to die of lung cancer, heart disease, throat cancer, etc... My breath was terrible.
Anyways, one day I had to make a choice. I was either going to choose to allow cigarettes to have power over me, and degrade and possibly end my life, or I was going to choose to quit. Either way it was a choice, and there was no touchie-feelie Oprah fucking Winfrey public whining was going to change that one simple fact.
Same thing for you. Stop bullshitting with all this drama, i.e. making your "quitting smoking" some kind of community effort. No one here is going to make that choice for you, no matter how much you try to bullshit around the issue. There's no magic cure, no magic bullet, no drug, no therapy no nothing and the more effort you put into believing otherwise, 1) the less likely you are to every stop smoking and 2) the more you annoy me.
It's annoying to have someone that makes a very LONG series of choices go around in public and act like they are some kind of hapless victim.
Did you go to the store?
Did you spend money on cigarettes?
Did you acquire a lighter?
Did you go to a place where it was acceptable to smoke?
Did you put the cigarette in your mouth?
Did you light the lighter?
Did you take the 1st drag?
Did you then exhale?
You had to make all of those choices in order to have the pay-off of that hit of nicotine. Now it's "X" amount of time later, and you are trying to pretend like none of that is what's true and relevant, no, no, it's somethingt ELSE, see? Lookie over HERE! I got this new book by Dr. Phil and he says that if I get in touch my inner child's feelings and do self-affirmations 4 times a day then someday I won't be a victim and....
Please. Just shut the fuck up. Quit. Or don't quit. You must un-LEARN what you have LEARNED. There is no "try".
