Dear Friends,

Need your suggestion. I have two website lets call them as website 1 and website 2. I want to remove a few articles from website 1 as I feel it is irrelevant and want to add them to the website 2 since that website is closely related to that article.

Now the problem is that all those articles were already sitting on website 1 for a year and getting some traffic from google and making me some money from Adsense. So, if I remove those articles and add them to the website 2 will Google consider it as duplicate content and penalize my website? and also does violate any google Adsense policy?

Thanks

Not if you de-index website one through GSC.

Thanks for the reply. OK if I de-index the website 1 does it mean my website 1 will stop getting organic traffic and I won't be able to index my future articles through GSC?

Delete, submit the link to GSC for removal, then wait for a few days before adding the content to a new site.

If you own both websites and they're in the same or similar niches, then you can publish the article on the other site and set up a redirect from the original article to the link of the new article on another domain.

I personally prefer the first method but the second method will help you pass the link juice and rank from the original article to the newer one.

Thanks for the suggestion.

You can redirect all your old links to the new site

Yes, I own both websites. Can you please tell me how to set up a redirect from the original article to the new article on another domain you mean to add contextual link on the website 1 like 'Click here' or 'read more' types?

I'd recommend deindexing the pages on website 1 that you are moving to website 2 and then setting up a redirect to send traffic to that site instead. It will also tell google those pages have moved and might help rank them in the same area.

You have multiple options:
  • Redirect first domain to second in GSC (in case if you want to replace the content from entire domain)
  • Choose article as canonical and post second article URL as canonical in first article (it tells Google that both are same articles)
  • Deindex page from first domain, wait for it to disappear from SERPs, and then add it to second domain
