Bingo. Also, I don't know if they still do this but they were super quick to send a persons information to a debt collection agency for the littlest amount.

They wont let you transfer out to another registrar or to another user at 1and1 or what?

to another registrar. Even you unlock the domain they locked it without notice. Simply they suck.

Don't use them. Had to move a client out from them and was literally a 3 day experience. Tried changing the DNS first to point to another host. They changed it back later at whim. They don't send junk mail to spam folder. They just delete what they think is junk. Stay away. Far away.
