OK, this is more about Tweeting than blogging, but tweeting my blog posts is what's important to me about Twitter. That and searching.

Which brings me to #hashtags. Where can I get a free list of #hashtags or how can I extract them from Twitter?

Even better would be hashtag and frequency of use, but that's secondary. I'd like to start by just getting a list so that I know the right keywords to saarch for related to my interests.

    Thanks!

there are some sites which track the popularity of the #hashtag, but since they're defined by twitter users and constantly changing, there's no concrete list that you can rely on.

wargasm, I realize that hashtags are fluid, but on any given day, a search of twitter has MANY messages. Persistent messages. The tags stay there. I want a list of the messages. At least one guy scraped twitter a couple years ago and has a list for money.

I am guessing that with the proliferation of hashtag trending sites there is some kind of API, script or program that has been written to extract this info. I am looking for just such an application or technique.

ska8r411, I have seen many of these "popular" sites. The trouble is the "most popular" have nothing to do with my interests. Half of all tweets are entertainment oriented. I don't follow Brittney and never will. So, looking at the top 1% of tags that 50% of the people use are useless. I need the list.

I guess what I am asking is how do all these sites collect their data that they summarize and publish? I have my own research purpose. The data collection concept is the same. The data reporting is entirely different.
