Need advice for downloading through torrent in US

I heard that downloading through torrent is banned in US. Need suggestion for downloading torrents in US.
Do I need a proxy ? Any free private proxies available ?

Please provide suggestions. Any help is appreciated.

it's not banned but its illegal.. give bit torrent a try..
 
Isn't illegal means it is illegal to try also :-) ?

I am just concerned. I am here for few months and do not want to get into problems.
 
Get a good VPN. Stay away from free and cheap. Make sure the VPN is working and IMO go w/ a VPN that trashes logs nightly.Torrents aren't banned or illegal, what you choose to download might be.See Ya in the Pokey!
 
you can use torrents not just to download 'illegal' stuff but you can use it to download free games and music. it is all up to the user if he/she wants to do illegal stuff....
 
Any suggestion where to get a good vpn and its price ?
Never used it before.
