there are currently 2 versions of maps results
1) plain maps listings with organics underneath it
and
2) maps and organics mixed results
When you see #2 as the result then you need to make sure your site is well optimized for that term.
Where as #1 not so much..but make sure it has the citations, and completely filled out with GEO targeted videos, pics etc.

Yes I can, just PM me, I will send you 2 links of places you can post to, there is like 3000 or so that i have collected, some will not take an out of market submit some will, so just have to test it one by one.

This is a very good method angelas. If you do a little blackhat way , since you are saying the comments show up as reviews, you can post negative comments about your competitor so that they will show up as reviews. This is a little too blackhat and on the wrong side too. Its left to your conscience to decide.
Counter productive,it'll make their listing climb above yours and 90% of people don't even look at the reviews they'll simply dial the tel number the difference in calls between 1st and 2nd in places is massive is it really worth promoting your competition above you!

from what i can get, citations are like adding your business info to a website like yellowpages etc. check out this ebook its really helpful

it was already mentioned in this thread but a citation is basically your business address added to comments you add on the internet. The google bot will pick these up for you and you don't risk being banned since you're not posting any links to ban instead you're posting your business address.

one thing i also want to point out while doing google places if you dont have a high pr website or enough back links use a free domain site that already does and google for some reason credits it and puts it on the top of the list , no work needed ive seen people on the top list with 2 reviews and wefhdfd.blahblah.com and no citations and from what ive gatherd on information hes on top because of the high pr domain. also i would like to see bhw have there own subsection strickly for google places wouldnt that be nice? how can we go about getting that done
Page rank play roles only if google displaying combine results (organic + places). if your query triggering old format results then Page rank has no value on ranking .

Would any of those ideas work for improving google places ranking.
1)Put company name and adress in articles and submit them via amr.
2)Make forum profiles with company name and adress in about me section.
The idea behind it is that google would see company name more around the web and give it some love throught google places.
