My First Real [Journey] Learning JS and Linux Through CodeCademy

Hi, This journey post is to keep myself accountable along the Way.

Inspirations for this journey: @lucky.sparks & @Harnur @evex

What I want to do:

I want to educate myself in the following programing languages and programs

-JavaScript
-Node.js
-Python
-Php
-Puppeteer
-Linux
-Command Line

Why?

Because I want to be @lucky.sparks of course! (Doubtful I'll get there)

In all seriousness, this is the stack I've seen him talk about that has helped him in his endeavors. I know experience is the big x factor here so it won't be a very easy journey. But I am going to give myself small goals along the way to get where I want to be.

I want to get good enough to where I can reverse engineer apps like Instagram and tiktok so that I can understand what is going on within the programs and what I need to do to start a successful social media agency empire. (My main focus will likely be tiktok)

- Inspirations from @evex : work with quality clients, quantity isn't always better. When you focus you can get great results. Specialize in something and get familiar with it. (He had no programing exp and built his own software)

- Inspiration from @Harnur : pick a niche and stick with it. Successful journey threads. (I have picked my niche)

- inspiration from @lucky.sparks : successful journey threads, starting a proxy farm, handling most things in a way where you have the knowledge, knowing how to keep the cost down, fix things when you need it. Self reliant.

Goals!
- Immediate (Executable) Goals

* Learn to understand, read, and execute command line:

This should help me with my second goal which is to get a better understanding of how to operate Linux and get more comfortable with it.

This will also help me with reading and understanding documents related to Linux so I can help myself.

* Learn to operate Linux:

This should help me when it comes to creating my own proxy servers and setting up the equipment I need.

This should also help me in understanding how to operate my business and the ins and outs of it without having to rely on others for support. In turn this will allow me to provide better customer support and even train future employees to understand based on my own understanding.

* Create a mini proxy farm with 10 Android devices and play around with some dongles.

This gives me a task to apply some of my knowledge to. I like to learn by doing. Experience is the best teacher and it will make me feel like I am making progress when I can physically see something that I put together. The more I tinker around, the smarter I'll get. Iterations

- Short Term Goals:

* Upgrade to JrViP

Upgrading to JrVip is simply superior. No one can tell me otherwise. (Joking)

Running a proxy farm is expensive so the purpose behind this will be so that I can gain permissions to open up a BST.

As I won't have any Immediate use for my proxies, or at least big projects for them, I'll need to be able to cover my cost of education, which is keeping the proxies online and cost of equipment. Might as well rent them out.

* Starting a 4g/5g Mobile Proxy Business on BHW

As mentioned above, I'll be looking to open up a BST

I have had phones laying around from previously failed projects (apprx. 20) (sms marketing for web design, using phones for hotspot tethering etc.) and I simply did not know what to do with them until I read through some of the journeys on here related to to smartphones.

After I am done with all my tinkering and utilizing my knowledge from learning about command lines and Linux from CodeCademy course and other resources, I should feel comfortable enough to open up a BST and hopefully sell out.

(This is not an ad, do not contact me in regards to this, I am a noob. I'm on a journey and you can walk with me if you please. Will open BST when I am ready and feel comfortable enough to service people).

What Else Will I Be Doing Along The Way?

* Completing The Introduction To JavaScript Course and the JavaScript for Back End Skill Path

Completing the JavaScript Course and Learning command line are listed as prerequisites for learning node.js so I will be going through that so I can prepare myself for longer term Goals.

- Long Term Goals:

* Node.js, Php, and Python. In that order.

I have minor experience reading code and working with some Python so hopefully it's not too bad. I lack fundamentals.

* Reverse engineer TikTok to create a Tiktok Automation Script.

So I can be like @evex and @lucky.sparks in their respective niches.

* Have a 1000 device Mobile Proxy Farm

I want to open up incremental journey threads like $100 a day, 50 device farm, 100 devices, $200 a day etc. Along the way.

Principals for me to uphold:

quality quality quality. Don't rush things. Be efficient. Don't quit.

I love the "quality over quantity" I'm also working on something currently regarding quality and I'll soon start my journey.

Anyways, good luck on your journey mate, be consistent and build a personal brand on your niche, then success will surely be yours.

Almost done with learning the command line. Seems to be less scary than I thought. Maybe someone experienced in programming languages can tell me if theres something I haven't considered.

Either way, Im 47% with command line and 25% on my introduction to JavaScript. Ill likely finish Command Line today or Tomorrow, Then move onto Linux

Got Through My Learning Command Line Course. It was marked as a 4 hour course. It took me about 2-2.5 days to complete. I wanted to really focus in. If you speed through it I'm sure you could get through it a bit faster.

For anyone who wants to give it a shot, CodeCademy is free for everyone you don't have to pay to be a memeber. However they do have 2 paid plans geared towards giving you certificates and guiding you towards a career path. Although I have the pro plan, Its worth noting that most of the post I read online say the certs don't hold much weight in the job market. So do your research if that interest you.

What I Accomplished:

I have gained some level of awareness on how to navigate and use a command terminal. This is something that people who are accustomed to using a GUI are typically afraid of. I certainly was. I feel like I can use google now to compile and fill in any blanks I may need to solve any problems I may have when it comes to terminal work.

What's Next?

I bought 2 cheap Linux servers about a week ago. One to set up my proxies and one to play around on (reset multiple times, do stupid stuff, mess up etc...). So, I will go onto the Linux course in CodeCademy and continue the JavaScript Course. However, I will probably prioritize the Linux course for now because it is more of an immediate step for me.

I also got some physical hardware for my dongle based proxy farm, so I will need to figure out how to install Linux on that and set it up in an optimal way. But I will probably stick to VPS proxies for now as I do not have fast home based internet. (Still waiting on dongles to arrive)

Where am I now?

I currently have 5/20 android proxies active. There are some issues regarding speed, I am getting between 1-3 mbps upload and download speeds. I don't think that's super bad as I can navigate sites like reddit, But I cant load TikTok at all. It may be the signal in my area, or it could be my ISP data plan. I'll do some digging to figure out what it is I need to do to increase speeds. Maybe get some data from a different carrier.

I want to have this part solved in about a 2-3 week window. Hopefully it is achievable.

So for now, just happy I completed the command line course and one step closer to the node.js Introduction.

It's been about a week since my last update. I have good news and slightly less than good news.

As you all can see, I have joined the blue side!


Glad to have made it across the pond.

What does this mean?

Well, it means I have moved up my goal ladder. As it stands, I have completed 2/3 of my immediate goals:

I accomplished these steps with the help of Codecademy.

Now I'm far from being an expert, but the information I learned was enough for me to put enough puzzle pieces together to help me execute part of what I needed to do.

What have I accomplished?

I've spent the past week messing around with the use of Linux systems. During that time, I have booted and reset ubuntu desktop onto one of my laptops at least 5 times. I obviously didn't get it right the first few tries, but practice makes perfect. I'm ok with that. I learned there are 2 types of ubuntu's and that there is a difference. One is strictly command line, and one is more noob friendly with a UI.

I have used both so far. My current choice is the one with the UI, but I have mainly operated using command line. It's fun practice and the UI makes me feel slightly more comfortable in the learning process.

My two online linux servers are strictly command line. I have practiced connecting to them via ssh and running some commands and installations on them by myself. It was actually a necessary step when setting up my mobile proxies. Knowing how to utilize ssh will be useful in managing everything from one place.

Part 2:

In my last update I mention having hiccups with my proxies, where i could not get passed 1-3mbps. Well, I managed to fix that. Slightly.

Here is the slightly less than good news:

My current mobile proxy speeds are capped at about 10 mbps. Over LAN, I managed to get anywhere between 20-50 mbps in my area. However, when I share the proxies to the public, my speeds are limited due to my current LAN ISP plan.

The good new is that I can fix it by simply upgrading to faster internet. The other good news is that 10mbps has been enough for me to watch youtube videos, browse the social media sites, and load tiktok videos in a more than reasonable manner. Nothing debilitating.

So currently I am happy, and I know that this is only something where I have room to improve.

What's next?

If you've been following my goal ladder, You'll see that I am partially through my immediate goals and into my short term goals. I have upgraded to JR VIP! Which means I'll be looking to open up my first BST soon.

If I can get approved, I'll likely open up with a limited quantity (maybe 5). Even though I can go up to 20, its best for me to start slow and focus on providing the best experience I can, and to gauge if there is existing market space for me. Also due to my current limited speeds, I'll be opening up at a below market value rate to be fair to everyone.

How is Codecademy going?

I started Codecademy on close to noob level and because I knew what I wanted to learn, it helped me get to the current point. However you could easily do this with youtube.

Although they are useful, the time estimates for there course are off. By a lot. I think its a bit disingenuous. Because I'm attempting to put my best foot forward, a 1 hour course can take me 4 hours. a 4 hour course can take me a couple days. Of course everyone learns differently.

If you speed through the courses, I'm sure you could complete it within their estimated time frames.

I have completed 2 courses and have progress bars in 2-3 more (Pictures attached). But just those alone helped me make progress, so i am grateful.

I like to pair my learning with a project i'm working on or else i get pretty bored. I simply need a purpose. The past week I've probably spent 4-5 hours a day on linux and proxy related task. I still feel like I have way more to learn but I can't cram info into my head without an application.

When I get to focusing on JavaScript, I'm sure its gonna be harder
