My first media buy...

Subscribing to the thread,

Thanks 'Cosmicsounds' for sharing your experience with us, Thanks 'Wasted' for your valuable expert advice ! :)

I'm really interested to see how this journey goes, subscribed!
It's always fun to experiment with a bit of cash and see how things turn out. It's even more exciting when you make a sale when you weren't expecting any:)

Ok so til now I had 2 images up. One image had the publishers brand name in it and the other didnt. I decided to add additional images. In fact this is probably what everyone should do. Upload maybe 5-10 images pr ad and see which one has the best results.

(publisher exclusive)
GRAPHIC BANNER DESIGN 1

(normal ad without publishers name on it)
GRAPHIC BANNER DESIGN 1

I decided to add two more images. This image is more on the wtf, weird or funny spectrum. If you knew the niche you would laugh. Its not offensive just funny. I am doing the same as above.

(publisher exclusive)
GRAPHIC BANNER DESIGN 2

(normal ad without publishers name on it)
GRAPHIC BANNER DESIGN 3

So now I have two designs and two versions of each design.

Have you added more impressions? Or have you replaced the original banners?

1000 impressions have been done so far. 19,000 to go.

I added 2 more banners into my rotation in addition to the 2 that are there.

I think I should have started out with like 10 banners and then see which one works best.

Looks great. And though you ain't really expecting to make a dime, hope it converts well.
Keep us updated!

I've got into media buy recently.. Spent $100 on first campaign and got $0 back.. So I've been doing a little research and about banners here's what I've learned and it also makes sense..

You shouldn't use the banners that are provided by the vendor.. They're being used by other people as well and hence are saturated.. I think coming up with your own creative banners is going to yield a better ctr

Yea thats one thing I plan to talk to wasted about. I would really like it if he could show us some examples of old campaigns that he is no longer doing.

Hey cosmicsoundz inquiring minds are looking for an update. How goes the buy?

I have to respectfully disagree with this comment. No offense to the b0u4bD4 but this is bad advice, and the data to show is below.

HOUR | IMPRESSION BID | IMPRESSION WON | CLICKS | CTR

That is an Hour by Hour chart. let's say i ran my campaign at 8:00 (EST) which is equal to 20:00. It shows a .09% CTR, a .09% CTR means that within 1,000 impressions I got > 1 click.

Now skip to hour 16:00, which would be 4:00 (EST). It shows a .49% CTR during that hour.

That would of sucked if I threw that banner away because of hour 20:00 right?

Yes that's true if you are testing with a large amount of money , you can take risks , but if a banner didn't get any clicks for 1000 impressions , you might get better CTR with another one , i used to test banners with 10k impressions , But OP cant do that here according to the relatively low budget , but yea Timing has alot to do with and he might want to keep it up and see where it leads .
I'm not an expert or anything , far away , i just had a humble little experience with media buys in the past that's all :) .

Here is what vendor said.

An average will be 1 in 27 hops across all traffic.
You can expect for targeted traffic much better conversions from 1-5 to 1-10.
This of course is completely dictated by the campaign you run.

I am at 2752 impressions now and 200 (100 each) of those impressions are at the two new banners.

Still 0 clicks

Dang, something has to be up. But, I have ran into this before back in the day. Sometimes I just don't get clicks and I don't understand why.

Great advice. Hey is this prosper202 or other tracking software? Thanks

I think the best way to test ads is to let each one run for 1 week. I thought about 24 hours but maybe one will have clicks on fridays and none during the other days.

Anyone have any thought about how long a ad should run for with zero clicks?

I used buysellads a few months ago to promote my own service. Didn't have great success.

Ya .. my banners COULD be good but just not good for this network or website.

@lovetospoge
And how about the conversion rate of these clicks? In some cases 0.14 could be enough if it's laser targeted.

@cosmicsoundz
If the traffic is more or less ordinary there could be difference between working hours and evenings and between work days and weekends / holidays. In education - winter or summer breaks. There could be something unusual like mega conversion on Fridays 13th about midnight, but I guess you can skip it at the beginning.

I made 3 sales: 2x $10 and 1x $35. 90% of the clicks I got from that 3 million impression site was from mobile devices with the same IP ranges. I contacted buysellads and they said they will look into it, never heard back from them.

It seems the site owner just screwed you with fake traffic. The lesson I can take from that is to buy ads on authority sites or go for time exposure not impressions.

I had the same problem, I bought 50.000 impresions and I recived 112 clicks and 30% of this clicks was the same IP adress so when I contacted the buy and sell they told me the same thing when I asked for a refund.

A lot of websites from buy and sell dot com, buy cheap fake traffic and sell expensive ads.
