Moz spam score? cause for concern?

I have the moz tool bar on chrome. It tells me stuff like DA. But it also says my spam score is 3. My understanding is that this is the percentage of people linking to me that have high spam scores. I have never bought any backlinks or anything. I can see who is doing the linking. Its just a bunch of websites taking my picture to list in their product gallery or post as products (no backlink to my website articles. just the img source backlink to my website).

Should I be worried? What can I do about this? Does it hurt my SEO or google rank?

Absolutely irrelevant metric that has no actual value. Don't even bother checking anything from Moz. They have been worthless for quite some time now.

You shouldn't worry about what Moz says. They've lost their credibility a long time ago. Try to look for alternatives.

I've been working with metrics every single day for the past few years and I have quite a decent grasp of what's crap ans what isn't. You are more than welcome to use services of this joke of a company though.

And as a final argument - how can a company, that has inferior crawlers when compared to its competitors (ahrefs, majestic, semrush), provide relevant metrics at all? Moz will show you maybe 10% of links that site actually has. And maybe 20% of links shown in Ahrefs. Moz is like shooting in the dark. The sooner they end up in the graveyard of history, the better.

And I am rather not even jumping into "spam score" discussion.

You're suggesting Moz stats are meaningless - I know that's not the case. I have a decent grasp on it too.

Should they be taken as gospel? No. Do they relate to the authority of a website and it's "pulling power" when receiving a link back? Yes. Can it be something to take into account, along with other tools? Damn right.

For the last 2-3 months, I've been getting some decent backlinks via outreaching. DA went from 23 to 38. Rankings improved, visitors have increased. I've used Moz ratings mixed with manual checks and common sense.

If you don't trust their ratings, then fine, but I'm telling others who are reading this, that their ratings are a great way to filter out websites before checking them yourself before going for a backlink.

They are meaningless and they absolutely do not relate to the domain pulling power at all. All the "DA" does is taking into account the amount of backlinks the site has. Not even referring domains. A site that has 1RD sitewide link and thus a few thousand backlinks will have a pretty significant DA, yet, the domain itself will be useless.

There are many better ways to filter the domains out. Crawler that can't find more than 20% links (and I am overstating that) will make you miss out on some very decent domains.

I appreciate the civil argument.

MOZ metrics was slung together to jump on the cashing in of Google no longer updating PR. Nonsense at best.

Why not check out other ranking sites. I'm sure a lot of them will be shit in the eyes of MOZ too.

My main site had spam score of 5!! From the first day of registration (don't know why, clean fresh domain etc) till the 2 months ago, so for 1.5 years. And the spam score was - my site had not many inbound links, small backlink count related to article count, not much traffic (wtf). And other backlink related things, which is nothing related to SPAM! Imagine, a site with 50 articles and links from forbes, bestproducts, lifewire and nothing else will have spam score. There I lost faith in Moz.

Also, I have a churn n burn site of DA 30. And guess what, all I did I bought xrumer links for 20usd, lolololol. And I got DA 30. Imagine, you are thinking, WOW, I got a backlink from DA 30 site, which is completely useless and more harmful that clean site with DA 10.

Moz is shit and it's good only for selling links. Now when my site is DA 42, I can sell links for 100usd. That's the only point of MOZ, to tell the price of the link for unexperienced SEOers.

EDIT: And it's nothing related to rankings. DA 40 site will rank the same as DA 25-30. TF is wayy better metric to tell how site if powerful.

I consider Trust Flow too, and guess what - people say that's useless as well.

@Nargil actually Moz updated their index few weeks ago and now is half decent - definitely better than Majestic and Semrush ones, and close to what Ahrefs have. The DA and PA changed dramatically as you can imagine. Still measuring just the links, but at least now have some base for it. Also they promise to update it daily.

Of course TF have some use - same as DA and DR - its good to filter some shitty domains/outreach possibilities, but thats it. I will take domains with 0 TF any day as long as there are decent links pointing at them.

TF is harder to mess with. The more links you have, the harder it is to get good TF. For DA it's the opposite, no matter how much links you have, you DA will rise.

What I meant is - if the domain have more than 1000 linking domains and TF is higher than 20, it's really good domains.
