I use a host of different metrics. I look at the moz score in many cases. Many times I feel it's accurate and sometimes it's totally off. I know many people completely disregard it.

What metrics do you use to identify spam?

There's no alternative to Moz's spam score, there are many tools that provide such a score but again, through Moz. I doubt anyone will try to create a new one as there are so many factors to take into account. MOZ while successfully addressing some of the factors still have a great chance of making a website seem spammy and it actually isn't. For now, the best way to check for spam is manually.

You can use the check trust service as an alternative.

Well, if you're in that kind of stuff, you can use Majestic. Divide the Trust Flow (TF) by Citation Flow (CF), the best case the number is close or above 1.

Those are still only numbers and you should actually look at the backlink profile yourself, but in general, it's at least some filter for bulk checks.

MOZ has updated their algorithm recently, so it's fine to rely on it. If you look for alternatives my suggestion is to be careful with backlinks building.
