Hey guys, hope I'm in the right section.
Years back, I decided to host a website on a managed server hosting on a monthly plan basis.
Each month I would receive an invoice and pay upfront for the month coming.
After some months, the website didn't go anywhere and I just decided to abandon the project.
Through all the pain and anxiety that came along with the failure, I just didn't consider to open a cancellation request with the hosting company, but I just stopped paying for the service.
Now it looks like they're asking to pay overdue invoices, years back.
Talking with one of the staff on chat, he told me my account had been canceled about 2 years ago.
But after a few days, another dude on their chat told me that if a customer doesn't request a cancellation, the company keeps charging the customer. Is it legitimate or is it just a scam?

Ignore, if you are not using their service. Its not your fault.

Most domain registrars and hosting providers implement scam-like practices to make you think you owe money. You don't owe them anything and it should have cancelled as soon as your credit card declined.

Thanks for your advices guys:)
In fact it looks pretty scammy to receive such request after years. Do you normally request a cancellation when you don't need a hosting service anymore for your websites? Or you also happen to just stop paying for the incoming invoice? Did you also receive such requests as the one I received?

Depends on the ToS.

In some cases, you can cancel through their interface, In some other cases, you need to cancel your (Paypal/Stripe/...) subscription. Sometimes, you need to contact them and request explicitly.
