Hey guys,

So, lately I’ve been wanting to mess around with my own mobile proxies, but I ran into a weird issue while trying it out.

I’ve used mobile proxies before, so I know a bit on how they work, but the point is, I can’t get my IP to change when I need it to.

Switching airplane mode on and off doesnt do squat, no matter how long I keep it on airplane. Restarting the phone doesn't work aswell. I even tried two different data providers, same problem.

For some context: I’m from a small town in Slovenia, so I figured that might be the problem ( maybe limited ip pool or less mobile towers or something ). Went to Ljubljana, the capital, to test it, but still no luck.

My buddy there runs his own proxies with one of the same carriers I tried and says it works fine for him apparently, but not for me. Does it matter where I grabbed or activated the SIM? What could be the issue?

Oh, I tried manual rotation, iproxy, and localtonet too. And phones aren’t rooted.

Hit me with any ideas, I'd really appreciate them.

Thanks!

Interesting issue — could definitely be tied to SIM activation location or specific APN settings. Some carriers lock you to a static IP or have very limited pools unless rotated from a different region. Might be worth trying a SIM activated in a bigger city or asking your buddy to clone his setup 1:1. Also, check if CGNAT is messing with your IP visibility.

I’d suggest trying with a different carrier first. If that doesn’t solve the issue, trying another provider would be the next best option.

The most likely culprits are a limited pool of IPs provided by your carrier and a non-rooted phone or a possible configuration issue with the app. Since your friend's setup works, the difference could be in the SIM card plan, the activation process, or the phone settings. Test first with a new SIM card activated in Ljubljana, make sure the app permissions are correct, and contact your carrier and iProxy support for region-specific insights.

Your carrier might have longer IP lease times, so try a different APN, toggle a VPN, or check if they offer dynamic IPs.

That really is quite unusual -- especially if the same issue happens with 2 different mobile operators.
As mentioned above, I’d start by checking the APN settings on your phone. Most mobile operators list a few standard configurations on their websites -- you can try switching between them.

Also, to figure out if the problem is with your phone, you could try inserting those same SIM cards into another device and see if rotation works there.

If the test on another phone also shows no IP rotation, I’d suggest calling the operator’s support line to ask about their IP assignment policies. Don’t mention proxies ofc, and if they ask why you're interested, you can say something harmless like: "I’m a mobile app developer and I frequently test how my applications behave under different network conditions".

Should it rotate on it's own or do you usually do it manually? If the latter, your software might be broken. The first case is usually when there are no active close nods present, wait it out or contact the support

UPDATE - Got it sorted

Turns out, this is a default APN configuration setting problem. Not really a problem, but yeah, doesn’t change ip.

So luckily it didn’t take much research and testing to finally fix it, but for anyone curious, what I did was I bought a new 100gb data sim card, tested it, it didn’t work at first but then I had chatgpt to suggest me to use a different APN to for the carrier I had, and once I did it started working good.

It said that the one I had was most likely a legacy APN or something ( i have no idea ), it was set to “internet”.

Anyway, thank you to everyone who replied It helped me to start asking the right questions.

Cheers

UPDATE - turns out while that did work for certain phones, it doesnt work for all.

My samsung a51 5G android 14 for example doesn’t rotate ip even with the APN change.

Any recommendation on phones / 5g dongles?

Do you really need high speed? Otherwise it is recommended to use 4g dongles.

Could be a carrier-level issue if you're seeing the same IP even after switching sessions. What proxy provider are you using? Some "mobile" proxies are just 4G-tagged datacenter IPs behind the scenes.
