Microsoft SKYPE WORST EVER

I was using the older/classic version of skype since years as there latest version really sucks and don't have the feature to organize contacts in lists-such a basic feature but these retards completely omitted it with their latest version.

Today they forcefully logged me out and asked to update to the latest version. I was so disappointed and tried for 2 hrs to see if any of their older version still allow me to access skype with the list feature in.

But I ended up installing the latest version and in the process LOST YEARS OF MY CONTACTS LISTS.

I had organized my contacts in 80 different categories- as I sell many different services, so had huge lists

I have had over 3000 clients and contacts that I had carefully organized into lists so I can contact them whenever I want to. Now its ALL GONE. How would I know what category he/she belongs to? And If I want to send some offer to specific list, how do I do that? It's all gone. Indirectly, it will only but result in loss of clients or contacts. How can they omit such a basic functionality? Are there technical staff retard or what?

I wish I have had the option to make lists. SKYPE and MICROSOFT is the WORST, have WORST support and SUCKS ALL TIME.

Anyone can help to add back this feature with some bot or anything?

Thread moved.

Also for what it’s worth I had a similar issue a while back, but in my case, upgrading my skype account to a Microsoft account actually broke it completely and I could no longer log in.

In the end I had to create a whole new skype account from scratch- everything was lost.

Anyone got a solution to it? Maybe like they can create a bot or something and add the required features to the skype?

Yep skype keeps getting worse and worse.
U can google "download skype old version" and find some mirrors for older versions.
I've since migrated to Telergam. I think most ppl sticking with it for same reason as u. too many contacts, locked into that platform. no way everyone moves all at once.

I know what you mean! Until recently, my Skype account was collecting dust. I resurrected it for work and I honestly don't remember it being so dysfunctional. Granted, the last time I was active on it was more than a decade ago. Still, the mobile version is unpredictable when it comes to notifications, the web version often mixes up the order of the messages, and the desktop version is so heavy on a computer's processing power, it's amazing. Are there better alternatives, though? Slack, maybe? But everyone else, including clients, is using Skype...

Agreed. Telegram is much much better. The few things it is lacking right now are the screen sharing/group call/video call. We use appear.in for that. I think every marketer should migrate to Telegram..

Have you tried to install skype old version by downloading it from an abandonware website?

The OP was using the old version and he was forced to update. See:
Today they forcefully logged me out and asked to update to the latest version.

The mobile or the web version might worth a try, if one is still fixed on Skype.

Web version is pretty gimped. It's what i've been using for years instead of desktop client. You can't do lists on there either.
Two alternative solutions worth testing. One is installing Skype 7.40 which still has the Turn Off Automatic Updates feature under advanced. Later versions do not.
Two is adding an entry to the host file 127.0.0.1 download.skype.com

This is the end of skype ,they made me update months back and i have lost around 2k contacts which i have organised in multiple categories ,its better to make some p2p chat software which business people can use

I was using 7.40 only and used it for 2 years since they started popping up the warning message "this version will no longer be available...." But then they forced me to update.

I would really love to know more about "entry to the host file" Can you elaborate a bit more? Will I be able to organized my contacts in categories with this feature?

and how do I do it?

Same is the case with me, I lost more than 3000. Right now, I can only contact people who recently pinged me. Of course I can contact others too but then I have to go over each and every contact, find what we talked about, why he or I contacted him and then figure out. What a Shame!

These Skype morons don't know what they are doing. Instead of adding new features, they are discontinuing basic features Pathetic!

yes this is called stupidity ,they could easily make money by offering a paid option to use the old version easily most of us can pay that monthly payment

Correct, As everyone else using skype too, we are locked in and forced to use this shit.

Adding that entry to your hosts file is for keeping Skype to update. Search for "how to edit hosts file [the version of your Windows operating system goes here]".

If you download an older version of Skype, which has the feature "turn off automatic updates" and/or you block the update via the Windows hosts file, you might still be able to use Skype without updating. This makes sense, uncutu is right with this, but it requires testing.

Great, thanks for your insight. I will look into it.

Also to make the matter worse, they have removed "away" status. Now we can either set "active", "do not disturb" or invisible. Well done-keep it up SKYPE.

New skype is disaster, i still manage to use old version on mac and disable updates but i also started to use Telegram, it is much better in my opinion.

but Skype still asking for update: http://prntscr.com/mce229

Can you or anyone else tell what I am doing wrong?

it has to be "127.0.0.1". usually takes few mins to take effect once you save the file. you can reboot to make time go by a little quicker.
how long have you spent searching google? there's hundreds of unique posts on answers.microsoft.com and other niche blogs. someone had to have figured it out.
last resort get linux emulator. i believe skype-for-linux has been stuck on version 4 or 5. for a while. likely the features you want are still there.

I figured it out by visiting microsoft site. Installed old version, its showing up the lists but history is completely missing. It is only showing the conversation history of 2019.

One problem solved, another one arises. Any tips?
